Who are Travelfish?
Travelfish is a small, privately held Australian company producing original travel content to Cambodia, Laos, Sinagpore, Thailand and Vietnam. Here's some of the people behind Travelfish.
Sam
Samantha is an Australian journalist based in Jakarta, Indonesia. She backpacked around Southeast Asia in 1997 and loved it so much she settled in Thailand. She has worked stints at an embassy and newspaper and now slaves away for an international news agency, longing for more backpacking holidays like the old days. Her top beach read is How Proust Can Change Your Life, she always forgets to pack flashlights and soap when travelling, and she wishes she didn't get ill reading in moving cars because she could use that time to do cryptic crosswords.
Stuart
Stuart previously lived in Thailand and Cambodia for around eight years between them, where he worked as an under-paid, under-skilled language teacher, an embassy staffer, a newspaper web-site developer and various other stuff. Before all those non-travel jobs he authored two travel guides, one to Vietnam and one to Thailand. He still spends a lot of time travelling and can sleep anywhere, anytime - even on the road to Bokor. His favourite read is The Art of Travel by Alain de Botton. He lives in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Caroline
Caroline first came to Asia in 1996, when a friend suggested a holiday in Thailand out of the blue. Those first tentative solo steps out of the nest were the launching pad for a headlong love affair with travel in general, with Asia in particular, and Laos most specifically. After a couple of years backpacking South East Asia, checking out Europe and the Middle East, and running comedy venues in Edinburgh, she returned to Laos and eventually settled down in her most favourite spot of all: Luang Prabang, where she runs one of the town's best tasting cafes...check it out!
Wayne
Wayne spent way too long travelling around Asia leading groups for a couple of adventure tour companys before he decided to throw up his feet and enjoy the sun in Phuket. A year or so later, he gave up waiting and started researching for Travelfish. We worked him so hard he needed a sabatical in the Maldives to get over it. He's now based on Ko Samui, Thailand.
D
Faced with tunnelling out of Cha-Am or coming on board with Travelfish, D chose the latter and has travelled the region top to tail for Travelfish. D's currently on a six month sojourn through Vietnam -- if the place isn't in your guidebook, chances are he's on the way there.
A
Our resident Brit in Laos, A has spent over a decade there exploring the country left, right and centre.
J
British-born J is another of our Vietnam hands. Based in Ho Chi Minh City, J uses it as a base to explore the Mekong Delta and other areas of southern Vietnam. He used to be a teacher, but the students never really listened to him, so he came to work with us -- we listen to him a little bit more.
A
Our Singapore correspondent, A's well known for her love of travel. This, combined with a deft pen and a serious shutter happy tendency, made her the perfect candidate to put together our Singapore coverage.
