Arab Street and Bugis guesthouses and hotels

Bugis once housed the bulk of Singapore's budget accommodation, in the form of dilapidating firetraps and sleazy pads in the old Bencoolen backpacker quarters of old. Those days are long over, but some quality stalwarts remain: accommodation in Bugis and Arab Street now fits a range of budgets, with overall high standards: excellent dorms, functional ensuite doubles, top end hotels, or a selection of Singapore's best midrange rooms. Whether you choose to stay in Bugis, Bencoolen or Arab Street, access to transport is excellent, and the location is ace -- as is the neighbourhood. Backpacker accommodation is scattered around Bugis and North Bridge Road, while the Bencoolen area nearer to City Hall has a concentration of low to mid range hotels.
