Wickedly overpriced in high season
Not many hotels can claim an 11th century ruin within their grounds, but the Bagan Hotel River View goes even further and has two.
As with the nearby Bagan Thande Hotel, the large grounds here are jungled, lush and run right down to the river's bank. Rooms however disappoint, with the river view ones in particular being poor value for money. They're housed in a collection of motel-like buildings scattered across the grounds and while they're clean and very well kept, we just felt there was something missing. The views out of most are quite poor though the river view room we were shown did have a good view out to the water -- but you pay a hefty premium for this and the high season rate is simple demented. There is a freeform swimming pool near reception and restaurant areas near both the pool and the river.
