Top budget guesthouse
At the top of the cluster of budget guesthouses just west of the palace moat is nonsensically named E.T.
Hotel. This five-floor, stairway-only guesthouse has basic but clean rooms that fill every floor and the rooftop with visitors. The lobby doubles as a community space while the TV plays old movies and each floor has a very small area where people tend to congregate or read left-behind books. Their pricier rooms have more furnishings such as a clothes rack and tables and have the option of air-con or fan-cooled. Shared bathrooms are clean with hot and cold water and the rooftop rooms are a bit cheaper then the rest. The friendly staff are comfortable dealing with foreigners, and have a good system set up, offering the usual services such as travel and ticket info, and an included breakfast and WiFi. Unusually, they're good at responding to booking requests via their Facebook page.
