Upmarket Nyaung Shwe
The Viewpoint Lodge, under Western management, is the most expensive and luxurious accommodation option in Nyung Shwe.
A series of cottages are built over the water and offer lovely views, especially during sunset. Rooms are large, offer a separate living room area and large private balcony. The minibar is electricity-free, cooled by ice only, with a separate compartment stocked with liquor and local wine from the Red Mountain Winery. The TVs are the largest we saw in town and a selection of DVDs and books are stored in the rooms with more available at the front desk. Furniture is top quality with the beds being very comfortable. Rooms also feature hot and cold water, lots of pillows, safety deposit boxes, and a large menu of items available for room service. Fruit tray and selection of any beverage you'd like at check-in. Rooms are very pricey by local standards but may seem reasonable to Westerners used to fancy resorts. Breakfast is included and served in the restaurant but a fee applies to have it delivered to your room. Expect to pay much higher fees for services such as bike rentals (though we're told the bikes here are of much better quality), airport pickup, massages and food. Ask for a room towards the left if facing the hotel from the street; staff informed us that the rooms in this area are quieter.
