Kim Srun Guesthouse
Metal bar mayhem
Sihanouk Rd (Riverside)
Kompong Cham Province
Description
Like the Spean Thmey Guesthouse a little further down the road, the rooms here are on the bleak side and the bathrooms grimy. The most frustrating thing however are the bars on the windows which are in a concentrated metal weave pattern that totally destroy the possibility of a pleasant river view. There are though, as with the Spean Thmey, two large verandas from where you can enjoy the view unobstructed.

$5 for triple, fan, ensuite. Our moto driver took us here. Whilst the location on the riverfront was great and the veranda was good for people watching, the rooms were grimy and the bathrooms were worse. Small bathrooms and the bedroom had loads of insects everywhere. Due to the metal bars, the windows couldn't be opened and the fans were useless. Staff seemed friendly but spoke no English. Kompong Cham is a small town and there are better options available.

All Spean Thmey would need to greatly improve its value is a coat of paint and good scrub. The rooms, while not as large as those at the Mekong, are still well-sized, but with paint peeling off the walls and very old and grungy cold-water bathrooms, the Spean Themy is poor value when compared to... more
