You Hong Guesthouse
Friendly with a market view

What we say:
We probably didn't hit You Hong I on the best of days as there was construction going on along the western wall and, while checking out the room, the power went out but, hey, this is Kratie and these things happen. This is the original of the two You Hong places in Kratie, and the business end, especially when it has come to food and ticketing has moved to the other property closer to the river. Neither has especially great rooms -- they're functional and clean, but that's about it. The upside of this one is you're overlooking the market (and there is an upstairs terrace to enjoy it from) and you're off the tourist riverside strip. This wouldn't be our first choice, but if you're on a budget it is a solid second choice. Bathrooms are compact -- no cat-swinging allowed. We found the red bars that surround the stairwell to be claustrophobic.

Don't book transport here
We booked a taxi here and wished we hadn't. Paid $70 and were told by others in town the going rate was $55-60... That's serious commission. The first driver wanted to take his wife with us (already 4 travellers in the car), when we said no he swapped us to a second driver who took us as far as Kampong Cham. He then handed us over to a third driver who took us to Phnom Penh but refused to drive us at our final destination and just went to the central market.... Where he'd asked his tuktuk driver friend to meet us. We'd paid up front at the guest house so there was nothing we could do. Serve us right for being lazy, not shopping round, and paying in advance I suppose. But I advise you not to do the same! Didn't stay in the guest house but ate here - the food was OK at least!

Good choice
We stayed 2 nights at You Hong II based on the reviews on travelfish. The first room was crawling with roaches and all sorts of other bugs so we changed rooms - which was a bit of rigmarol but in the end it was okay. The manager isn't too personable but the tuk tuk driver Sithal is the best!!! He took us to have lunch at his house and hooked us up with his cousin in Siem Reap - definitely worth checking out!!

Best $3 rooms anywhere
U Hong is a real bargain at $3 a night! The rooms, though basic, are clean and nice. The staff are helpful and can organize all your traveling needs. The food is fine too.

Food and company is comforting
Hi, We stayed elsewhere ( star) but wished we had stayed here- great vibe, cheaper ( generally) the food and the company was the best thing there, with lots of traveller company. worth a try, as it is very popular

really great
We stayed in a large clean double room with a tv. The staff couldn't have been nicer and we organised transport to the dolphins and the bus to phnom penh from them with no problems. The food was good too. Great place.

surprisingly good
was planning on staying somewhere more expensive - glad i didn't! this place is super clean, the staff speak really good english and they're friendly and helpful... the rooms might be basic but they've got everything you might need! (i've bought the ticket to the border, we'll see how that one goes! it didn't seem overpriced though!)

Good rooms but watch the extras
The rooms were nice and clean, no problems there. But I ended up paying for the ''free'' coffee and what I'd been told was ''free'' internet. The ticket to to the Laos border was overpriced and there was no boat from Stung Treng even though I'd paid for one. Disappointing really.

Great value, brilliant chill out place & 1st class food
Fantastic! I got a room for $2.50 with large bed and private bathroom. The staff are friendly, speak good English and have mounds of travel information at your disposal. The restaurant serves first class food and the best coffee you'll get outside of Laos (in my experience!)
