Of all the guesthouses in Kratie, Grass is the most stylish backpacker joint with an excellent upstairs balcony that is ideal for sunsets and meeting other travellers while simultaneously tucking into some solid Khmer and Western dishes.
Formerly The Balcony, Grass is in a traditional Khmer wooden villa just off the riverside road. The atmosphere is more homely than other guesthouses in the range, though if you need things like hot water then you might be better off in somewhere like Heng Heng II. However, they do have air-con, which is available at some of the best value we found in town. The rooms are large with wood walls, screen windows, good quality bed linen and all of the basics including fans and mosquito nets. The upstairs balcony is the focal point, though there is a congenial bar and restaurant downstairs too. The rates are very good and this is infinitely better value than the slightly cheaper Star. A good option if Le Tonle happens to be full.
