NorDen House

Comfort in the countryside

What we say: 4 stars

Located a five-minute walk from Yak Lom crater lake, this forested retreat has six bungalows -- all doubles, two with twin beds -- that are spotless and comfortable. A Swedish man (who used to own Scandinavia hotel in Phnom Penh) and his Khmer wife opened NorDen in early 2008. For an extra $5, it's immeasurably more comfortable than Yaklom, although its manicured grounds and sturdy, cement bungalows feel much more removed from nature. The ceilings are wooden, the floor made of marble, and the bathrooms have wide glass sinks. Internet is free for guests as is the on-site sauna. Rooms all come with hot water and TVs with DVD players to watch the assortment of movies in the restaurant library. The restaurant is huge and features an assortment of Swedish and Khmer dishes. Electricity runs daily from 18:00 to 06:00.
