Sohka's Guest House
The shining star of Kompong Chhnang if not SE Asia

What we say:
This is the shining star of Kompong Chhnang Guesthouse scene -- actually, it would the shining star of any guest house scene anywhere in southeast Asia. It's in a quiet and attractive location, on well-tended grounds, with a staff that speaks English and French. There's a wide variety of rooms to choose from, with options available to make them friendly to everyone's budget, and the rooms -- this cannot be emphasized enough -- the rooms here are the most pristinely clean rooms that have ever existed anywhere in the known universe. Seriously, you'll feel guilty messing them up, but never fear: the moment you leave someone will whisk in restore everything to its former glory. What's more, everything in the room always works, or it is immediately repaired. And you can get all this for the same budget prices available elsewhere in town. Finding a place like this in a place like Kompong Chhnang is nothing short of astonishing. The only reason it doesn't rate a perfect score is that, well, it's in Kompong Chhnang. You can hire a motorbike here for US$5 a day or a bicycle for US$2 a day. Highly Recommended.

Not recomended
I had a look at 1 room and it smelled like a ashtray and did not look clean. The hotel ''garden'' looks old and not taken care off. Better of to 2 other nearby hotels.

BAD TIMES
This place was my ONLY bad experience in Cambodia. The rooms were plain, NOT super clean, NOT inexpensive. There is no internet available, wifi or otherwise. No restaurant on premises or even close by. Room rates, $15 single, were more than the upscale hotel down the street. I need internet while I travel to maintain my business... I let them know this as soon as I arrived. I told them I needed to find somewhere else, which I did. I was in the room for 5 minutes! They wanted me to pay $5 for 'the A/C I used'. When I offered $2, which is perfectly fair, they were rude, yelled at me, tried to take my bags, said I was a 'bad' person. They were charging $15 single in May, low season. My a/c room at Sovann Phum is only $13, and has wifi and everything else I need. Sohka's seems to have gone downhill since it was last rated here.

Best in town
Spent a very low key New Years eve here. Best bet for budget digs in town. Paid $6 for a nice double. My only complaint is that they don't have a resturant/bar to hang in.

Just excellent
Sokha Hotel (sic) is a great, great guesthouse in a lovely town. Paid US$5 for a twin room with a fan, and what a great room it was. Very clean and well-kept, with a fridge, tv and nice bathroom. The owner is a terrific guy always up for a joke and the staff are very helpful. This is how all guesthouses should be.

Simply amazing
We paid $7 for a triple room, ensuite, fan, fridge/freezer, cable TV. This included complimentary bottled water, all toiletries, flip flops! This guesthouse was amazing - the best we stayed in our 5wks in SE Asia. Lovely, spotless rooms. All the appliances worked. Staff speak a little English and French and are very friendly and do everything they can to help. The owners let us use their clothes washing area (washing line) when we mentioned we needed to do laundry. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough.
