The Boddhi Tree -- Umma
Lovely garden setting

What we say:
Opposite Tuol Sleng Museum, this excellent garden cafe and guesthouse has spotless, well-sized rooms with great bathrooms and a pleasant ambience, though only the expensive rooms have hot water and private bathrooms. The friendly attached cafe is excellent, if a bit overpriced. If you dine here, opt for the quieter, cooler upstairs veranda. The location isn't very convenient for the rest of the city and is often mobbed with beggars at the entrance and tourists inside, but a squad of motos out front will quickly take you anywhere. The place is pricier, smaller and more crowded than its superior sister restaurant/hotel around the corner, Boddhi Tree Del Gusto. A shop next door sells handmade crafts benefiting disabled Cambodians and there's a tasty juice and smoothy stand a block north on the left.

A little Gem
Nestled away from the very busy city streets in Phnom Penh and situated right across from the gate into the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum is this little gem of a guesthouse. Due to its proximity to the museum it is very easy to find with any moto or tuk tuk driver and is in a quiet part of town (hence, if you are a party guy or gal, I wouldn't stay here). The rooms are spotless, the beds soft, linens fresh, the staff very helpful and there is a lovely garden out front in which to enjoy the onsite restaurant's meals. WiFi is also available throughout the rooms. The place is also well protected and secure, with regular tuk tuk and moto drivers standing by at all hours to take you anywhere you want to go. I booked in seamlessly through their website prior to arrival. For the US$14 I paid for a single private with a fan and ensuite, the Boddi Tree was one of the best deals I have found along y travels this time in SE Asia. Safe journey.

The food is great but...
The garden setting is lovely and the food is great. However paying $23/18 I expected a bit more like hot water and rooms lit by more than just lamps.

Happy at Umma
Just the kind of place I was looking for! My room, for US$12, was lovely. I had a fan, and a mosquito net. Bathroom was shared. The decor was gorgeous. Restaurant was fine, and staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again, and definitely recommend.

Lovely, but a/c doubles are over priced.
Great ambiance, great food, great staff, great Wi-Fi, but at US$46 for the air-con double it's too much.

this place has great atmosphere, nice lounging area and serves up great food. the staff are friendly too. my bf stayed here and liked it, his only complaint was low water pressure in the shower.

Nice atmosphere but overpriced
You can't fault the atmosphere and decor at the Boddhi Tree but it's really overpriced for what you get. For $19 U.S. we got a tiny fan room with a shared cold-water bathroom, split between several rooms. Service is okay but not overwhelmingly friendly. If we hadn't been so tired when we arrived we almost certainly would have gone elsewhere. Everything is pretty clean and the restaurant is good value compared to the hotel but we would not stay there again. For the same price you can get much more elsewhere.

I love this place!!!
:) I arrived late in the evening by bus from Siem Reap and was very glad to meet the tuk2 guy sent to pick me up. Was a bit blur where to check in as I didn't know the table inside the restaurant was the check in table. :P I loved my room! Nicely decorated and charming. Had a wonderful time staying at Boddhi Tree. Having Tuol Seng just opposite gave me the creeps during the first night but it was just all in my head la. I would definitely come back here if I do visit Phnom Penh again. Lovely, lovely place. p.s. The guys working here are really nice too, and very helpful. Thanks for everything.

Looks good...... if you want to sleep in a hothouse.
I booked carefully (exchanging many emails) to ensure that we had a room with ensuite and air-con at the Boddhi Tree. But I think they have a habit of overbooking because we weren't the only ones arriving on that day booked into a tiny little hovel with a pathetic little fan on the floor and a shared bathroom (shared by everyone including the staff!) Their excuse was that the admin side of it was problematic!?? They offered us accommodation elsewhere -- a revolting room in a drab hotel which they took us to see at our expense. Or take the fan room. It looked like a way of filling up the unwanted rooms to me. And despite this they couldn't assure me that on my return visit (after a trip to Sihanoukville) their would not be any accommodation slip-ups.

great little place
we paid 20 dollar for an a/c room with just cold water which felt slightly too much, but the staff is very attentive, the place is cozy, well looked after and has a great atmosphere! in the end we were more bothered by the mosquitos in the room than the prize.

staff are friendly but overpriced for room
stayed here for 3nights! staff are lovely with an excellent restaurant. But for what you actually get for the room I thought it was slightly overpriced and its a bit further out.

Lovely little place :)
I cannot speak highly enough about this place. I stayed here for three days when I first got to Cambodia (still here now, but in a rented house). I would have ahppily stayed longer if it weren't for the fact that I was moving into a rented house. The staff here are so friendly, the garden is lovely (as is the upstairs veranda/balcony seating area) and the food is amongst the best I've had in Phnom Penh. We have been here 6 weeks now and still go there most weeks for a meal! I would also highly recommend their sister guesthouse/restaurant, Del Gusto, nearby.

A bit overpriced
Stayed for three nights at end May / early June. Paid US$16/night for double room plus fan and private bathroom. The ambience is great and the food in the restaurant is also excellent, but the room is over priced for what it is. The staff are friendly and helpful though which makes up a bit for the price.

I love it too
Very good food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere but the room rates are more expensive. We paid US$12 for one night in a double room with fan and private bathroom. The next night we had a double room with fan and shared bathroom for the same price.
