Description
Clean and modern with updated carpet and tiling throughout, the Star Royal has just one quirk: the hallways run the perimeter of what would have made a lovely courtyard were it not for the fact that a tin roof hides the ground below. Perhaps they ran out of space and needed a covered area to do laundry. Regardless, the noise created by this feature during the rainy season may keep you from uninterrupted sleep. This aside, the rooms are spotless with air-con and private hot water bathrooms. The rooms in the back do have windows but they are inches away from a brick wall. Pay the extra US$10 for a river view but keep in mind there are better deals on the river. Rates include breakfast for two.

Hope & Anchor
213 Sisowath Quay
The Hope & Anchor (previously known as Mikey's) is toward the northern end of Sisowath Quay, atop the same-named popular bar and restaurant. Rooms are clean and well maintained, though the riverview rooms felt a bit empty as they're big but don't have much furniture -- all have TV, bar fridge and... more

Renakse Hotel
40 Sothearos Blvd, Phnom Penh
The Renakse Hotel sits opposite the Royal Palace and from the street looks like a very promising option. We've been watching as this place has been ever so slowly renovated over the past five years. The potential is definitely there, with its colonial feel and pleasant gardens. They've managed to... more

The Pavilion
227 Street 19, Phnom Penh
The Pavilion, housed in a colonial residence walking distance from both Sihanouk Boulevard and the Grand Palace will appeal to anyone looking to stay in a charming monument to Cambodia's colonial period. Spacious rooms are lovingly decorated and designed with a flourish -- tied sashes mark... more

Red Hibiscus Hotel and Restaurant
227 Sisowath Quay, Phnom Penh
A Travelfish reader directed us to this new entry in the crowded riverside hotel marketplace (see, folks, we really do use your feedback). It aims to be a boutique hotel for well-heeled travellers, and we agree for the most part with our reader: these are some pretty darn elegant rooms for the... more

Boddhi Tree Aram
70 St 244 Phnom Penh
Set in the heart of Phnom Penh's colonial district and within a short walk of both the Royal Palace and the riverfront, Boddhi Tree Aram is easily the most charming of the three Boddhi Tree properties in Phnom Penh. Set in a renovated 1950's house, Boddhi Tree Aram boasts soaring ceilings, airy... more
