Description
Located just west of the Cambodiana Hotel, a short moto ride from the river, the Okay Guest House is one of the only guesthouses in Phnom Penh to undersell itself. The rooms are large and spotless, with bathrooms attached. Given the slight bump up in the price, it is worth it to splurge on one of the air-con rooms, which are newer than those equipped with fans. The guesthouse is home to an internet cafe, as well as a common room/restaurant where a large (by Cambodian standards) TV shows the latest DVD releases from the market. The staff speak excellent English and keep advance bookings made over the phone.

the guest house was really busy, full of european travellers drinking beer.
rooms were suprisingly nice with fan and tv and a bathroom. everything is clean and staff are friendly.
food was oily and well priced, though not ultra cheap per say.
however!
we had to leave after 1 night because we didnt feel comfortable staying there. if you are under 18 (we are all 16 year old girls travelling alone) i think it would be better to stay somewhere else, or stay here with someone older in your group. it wasnt scary but people were drinking alot of beer, and we could hear someone throwing up in the middle of the night which was weird.
staff were friendly but a bit overly friendly at times.
there were NO asians staying then when we were there. so if you are asian it may weird you out a bit.

Their best twin room was big, spotless, with air-con and TV for $12. Ask to stay in their main building where the restaurant is, as the standard is generally much better. The restaurant is excellent if you want to try local food at a very reasonable price (especially breakfast). While dining in the restaurant, organise for one of the friendly staff (who double as tuk-tuk drivers, tour guides, waiters etc) to take you to see any of the sights for a fairly reasonable price. Our tuk-tuk drivers actively watched out for our safety, and although we paid a little bit extra for the ride, we felt safer, and I personally didn't mind contributing to the guesthouse after eating and drinking their cheap food and beer, and after all the help they gave us on our trip. We liked that the guesthouse encourages guests to contribute to Phnom Penh in more meaningful ways -- for instance teaching monks to read English or organising visits to orphanages.

Our room, was $10 with A/C , a TV and an extra bed, I'm guessing they were out of doubles. We were supposed to have hot water too, but didn't and we never got around to asking about it. The staff were nice, the food wasn't that good, but I enjoyed the lively restaurant/lobby atmosphere. Great for meeting other travelers! Each room has a book that you keep track of orders on and pay at check-out. We got our Vietnam visas in 24hrs. for $34 and booked our bus to HCMC through them, it was very easy and convenient. Also Pencil grocery store is just around the corner and has everything!

My email booking was not received ''email not working'' though I think it is more that they are not into them. They gave us a room (hot water, fan) for $10 as it was the only one left and gave us the option of moving in the morning to a cheaper one which we did (cold water, fan for $6). I would say that the rooms are good value but bring spray if you are adverse to ants. resteraunt serves good meals at cheap prices. main male receptionists rather surly but the remainder of the staff were all really nice and the waiters seem to double as the tuk tuk drivers. Unlike the post above we felt that we had a good deal on the tuk tuk $10 for full half day which also included the killing fields etc. We got one driver from outside to go around town to the markets etc and he was nasty so at least you know that the guys from inside are nice! Only downer is that really the resteraunt/communal space is not good enough for chilling and mixing with people, it is so damned busyso you don't feel like you can chill out because there are people waiting for tables.

I'm staying here now and really like it. Room is spacious (got myself a double for US$10). Bathroom is tiny but the hot shower works very well. Location-wise it is an amazing choice. It's walking distance to many attractions. Yes, there are cheaper options in PP, but this one, I think, is worth every penny.

Hi,
Not a bad place to stay, AC room form 8US$. Safe enough, friendly staff, who though trying to sell you their tours, generally offer a good service, food was cheap and plain, but good to start off with, very safe and pleasant, though not an upmarket, place, good enough for us flashpackers.
We were unforntunate enough to witness a guy being hauled out unconsious- who died latr, but thats to do with his personal habits, rather than a reflection on the place.
We stayed twice, and if going back would go there again for the value for money and cheap food. If we had more money, we would try the Paragon on the riverfront.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Abbo & Felicia

The guesthouse is a good pick and a great location. My room was with Aircon and tv and bathroom for only $8, good value.
the man at the front desk is a little cranky, and very pushy for his own tours, but the rest of the staff are friendly.

This guesthouse pays out huge commissions to tuk-tuk and moto drivers. Every driver we met wanted to take us to Okay GH. As our first choice place was full, we were taken here by our tuk-tuk driver. Triple room, ensuite, fan $7USD. Situated directly opposite a cheap internet cafe. Good location - v.near the river. Rooms were small but clean. Good for travel needs, tours etc, although staff were a little pushy. We booked our Mekong Delta tour into Vietnam from here (3day/2night, approx. $30USD). Get your Vietnam visa from elsewhere - Okay GH were charging $36USD, instead of the going rate of $30USD.

The room was clean and basic. They have got a cheap restaurant, you can have meal while watching the latest releases dvd. The staff were very helpful and they provide a transportation to anywhere.

Stayed here on return to Phnom Penh from Siem Reap. First room we had for 1 night was a bit grotty (but then we're a fussy couple, I'm sure lots of people would love it) then we changed rooms (from 9USD to 12USD) and got a really nice place. There is building work at the moment which is noisy from 7am, but other than that, the place had great atmosphere, loads of good DVDs, good (very cheap) food - what more could you ask for? Found the staff all very friendly too.

We stayed her for five days and it was basically ok. Staff were a bit pushy about overpriced tours, though. Food, internet and other services were convenient. The rooms are not all particularly secure, though, and I didn't feel a great deal of trust with the staff. They were not willing to help with any information and services that did not involve a profit for them. They also leave the rooms open after cleaning them, with the keys hanging in the doors.

If you are an asian, do not stay here. The people at the guesthouse are quite racist and I received very bad treatment. Aside from the bad service, the guesthouse location is very difficult to find. It is situated on a quiet street and there are two buildings owned by Okay guest house. I guess because I am an Asian, I got the poorer condition room. The room is ugly and the bathroom is not even considerable as a bathroom. It is just a man-made screen and pipe which cuts into one of the corner of the room. It is terrible here and I stayed just one night. I am sure there are better guest house than this. Take your own risk if you want to stay here. This is the worst guesthouse of my entire trip.

I found OK guesthouse to be a great place to stay in Phnom Penh, the guesthouse is on a quiet side-street and in a good location. The rooms are spotless and great value for money, definitely better than Capitol or staying down by the lake.

This mid-sized Chinese hotel has huge but slightly shabby air-con and fan rooms just off Sisowath Quay. The rooms are reasonably clean, the bathrooms are okay, and with the location so close to the river the price represents a great deal. Some of the doubles have two double beds that can actually... more
