Hidden to the north of Olympic Stadium, the Juliana is an oasis among tin-roofed shanties and roadside moto repair shops. The place was trashed during the 2003 anti-Thai riots but is now well back on track. The 97 rooms, some opening directly to the pool area, are clean, sleek and modern, with flat-screen TVs, boxy, fabric lanterns and walls inlaid with wood and stone. The bathrooms are huge and luxurious. The entire place has free WiFi for guests. The large round pool is a great place to relax, and there is a small Jacuzzi as well. Daypasses are $8 for non-guests. The Juliana is a great place to cool down and relax after mucking around Phnom Penh for the morning and before your night on the town begins. The menu of the hotel's adjacent restaurant, the accurately-named Shark's Fin Restaurant, might give you room for pause: For $135, you can taste the rare delicacy important from Thailand that is wiping out shark stocks. Try the other restaurant, Vanda, for more appropriate Western and Asian fare. There's also a spa with Thai massage and a barber shop with full beauty treatments.
