Flamingos Hotel
Good value standards

What we say:
This well-equipped hotel is a popular spot with tourists, and it's one of the best midrange hotels in town. The exterior is a bit tacky and off-putting with neon signs and balconies made of pink plaster columns, but the interior is gorgeous, flanked by large floral arrangements and all done up in teakwood, laterite stone, and terracotta to good effect. Bathrooms are downright tiny, as are the TV and mini-fridge, and the rooms aren't exactly spacious, but they are clean, modern and well equipped with telephone, air-con, and hot water bathrooms. An elevator thankfully serves all four floors as well as a cool rooftop bar with a panoramic view of the entire city. Unfortunately, it's become something of a hostess bar at night, leading to a seedier clientele, but the atmosphere is still lovely in the early evening. If you're going to stay at Flamingos, don't spend the extra money on a deluxe or superior room -- standard isn't much different. Breakfast and WiFi is included in the room price.

Good value, clean rooms, friendly staff
All of the positive things above are true. If you plan on staying in Nov/Dec, make your reservation early. If your plane is late, don't expect to get picked up, but I think the hotel is happy to pay the tuk tuk fare (they did mine, $7). I'd highly recommend this hotel, but I don't want it to be 'full' the next time I want to stay.

Terrrible Service
Hi, Although the rooms were okay I won't recommend Flamingos due to the bad service we received. We were told we would be picked up at bus stop but they didn't arrive. When I phoned them they told us to catch a Tuk Tuk. It was only when I refused that they said they would arrange for us to be picked up. Even then they said it would be 15 mins until I said no - pick me up in 5 mins or I will go somewhere else. I had also enquired about hiring a car and driver for the afternoon (which was the reason we wanted to be picked up quickly), it wasn't until we arrive at the hotel that we were told none was available. In the morning when we departed for the airport, I had arranged a 6am transfer. However upon trying to leave was told we had to wait until 6.30am. Whilst this wasn't the end of the world it was the fact they didn't mention this the day before and we had to get up early when there was no reason. The other thing about this guesthouse is that we think it may have ben a brothel. If not it was still disgusting the majority of other guest - fat middle age men - pick up women and girls from the bar/foyer and take them to their room.

Everything you need
The main review says it all: this place has all the facilities you need ... plus wifi. It's clean and well-maintained and the lobby is comfortable for hanging around. BTW my bathroom was quite spacious. They handled my email reservation fairly efficiently (I get the impression they check their emails just once a day). Location near the bars might be a pain for those who like to walk, not interested in massages, not interested in drugs, ...
