Description
The Malis sets itself apart from the score of other lakeside places by not being on the lake. This will be a major downside for some, but Malis also attracts a more low-key crowd, has clean rooms at good prices, a friendly, welcoming staff, and a whole bunch of peace and quiet to spare. A restaurant on the premises offers a selection of Western and Khmer dishes. This is a great place to hole up if the Boengkak Lake scene is beginning to irk you. English is spoken plus the owner speaks fluent French.

Cafe Freedom and Lodge
15 Street 93, Phnom Penh
No-frills Cafe Freedom and Lodge is easily the best budget option in the area. It has well-sized wooden rooms with private bathroom and fan. They have seven of these rooms, so making a reservation is a good idea, else they have a handful of concrete rooms to deal with the overflow. The very... more

Number 9 Sister Guesthouse
8A Street 93, Phnom Penh
Number 9 Sister Guesthouse is an attractive wooden setup with a spacious balcony area overlooking the lake. The guesthouse is loaded up with plants, including lots of orchids -- it's a very pretty setting. Rooms are spotless and those with bathroom are a better deal as the ones with share bathroom... more

Grand View Guest House
4Eo Street 93, Phnom Penh
This large, multi-storey place isn't right on the lake, but some of the rooms do have views over it. The rooms are clean and well looked after, though they're only mid-sized. The roof-top restaurant and bar is pretty good. The air-con rooms have cable TVs. A full range of travel services are... more

#10 Lakeside Guest House
#10 Street 93, Phnom Penh
This large guesthouse has loads of rooms -- all with paper-thin walls, but at least the staff are friendly. It's under new ownership as of 2006, and the new guy, Phanna, speaks excellent English and aims to please. We have received some negative feedback from users about this place in the past, but... more

#9 Guest House
9 Street 93
Located next-door to Lake Side Guest House, this equally large place has equally cheap and equally grotty rooms -- it isn't quite as popular as Lakeside and deals with its... more

Sunrise Bar and Guesthouse
Street 93
This isolated spot is better for a drink than a bed, as they have a great veranda overlooking the lake and watching the great sunsets, but the rooms in the wooden building are very basic. That aside, it's a friendly spot and a good walk from the other places -- almost in front of the mosque. Very... more
