Where is Lyon D'Or?

Lyon D'Or

Good rooms, indifferent staff

Located just around the corner off Sisowath Quay on Street 110, this mid-sized hotel has 22 good and very clean rooms, all slightly cramped but with private bathroom, cable TV, air-con and a lounge area with a desk and chair. The windowless singles are dreary affairs, and the most expensive are the only ones with a view. The staff can be very indifferent: We spent the first 20 minutes apparently covered in an invisibility cloak before being served when we arrived. The restaurant downstairs does good French food, and one of the main reasons to stay here is the fantastic continental breakfast, which features crispy bacon, eggs, juice, coffee and flaky croissants. The restaurant itself has a pleasant bistro atmosphere, with French artwork, a mahogany bar serving ice-cold draft Tiger and properly-made mixed cocktails.

Lyon D'Or reviews

Decent Place - 11th July, 2009
Stayed here several nights at the end of December/beginning of January. Here's what I liked about it- convenient place, friendly staff, very nice lobby plus nice place to sit outside and drink beer (also have good wine, good food, fairly big rooms with large bathrooms & ample hot water. here's what bugged me- I had a problem on sverla occasions trying to communicate with the staff. In English AND French. They were wanting to charge me more when I checked in, fortunately I had the e-mail with the price they told me on it. Fortunately, the owner walked in (it was late at night) and we discussed this in French and things were settled (owner is a very nice man!). When I was checking out, the credit card machine wasn't working so I had to pay cash (used all my reserve for that day!). Oh, I discovered breakfast was a couple of hard rolls and butter, so I opted to eat elsewhere. Other than that, no big problems.

Okay, but could do better - 4th May, 2008
Stayed here because we wanted to be near our bus station and this was one of the better places we found nearby. We had A/C, TV and hot water, but no windows. Room was small, cramped, high ceiling but bad lighting. For $15 a night you could do better at other places if you're staying longer in Phnom Penh. There is also free breakfast but they serve it at 7am and our bus leaves at 6:20am so we weren't able to sample the fare.
