This large and popular guesthouse with a relaxed atmosphere has loads of rooms, all with paper-thin walls but at least the staff are friendly. It's a good place to meet fellow backpackers, though the flipside is you'll feel shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers sleeping in adjacent sardine-can-size rooms with especially grotty bathrooms and sticky polyester bedspreads. Since it's set down an alley, the surrounding area is quieter at night than some of the more centrally-located guesthouses. Rates are low, though bear in mind you get what you pay for. For the same price you can get a bigger, cleaner room elsewhere that doesn't have the same musty smell. A large restaurant on the ground floor spreads over the hammock-draped veranda. Hot water is available in some rooms. Some of the double rooms may accommodate up to four depending on how cosy you want to get with your travel companions.

#10 Lakeside Guest House reviews

Read 3 opinions from Travelfish readers

Relaxing - 21st September, 2007
Stayed here for 3 days and 3 nights. The rooms were very basic but clean enough. The best point was the decking out onto the lake and the food! The sunsets over the lake were fantastic (if a bit smelly!) and the food was prepared quickly and was nice. Beware the 2 pool sharks though as played doubles for drinks and got wiped out! Saw alot of nicer places to stay around the lake but for $5 for 4 of us per night, couldn't complain at all.

You get what you pay for... - 30th June, 2006
We had a double room, bathroom, fan $3 and as the comments below say its not fantastic, but its a place to sleep really, theres too much else to do. The deck downstairs is nice, the staff are nice, no complaints given the price. Would be very upset to get a room like that for $10!!

never again - 10th January, 2006
I have to say, i'm not too picky a traveller, at all, but I was disappointed by this guesthouse. The room was incredibly humid, no screens on the windows, no ac (which is usually fine if you can open the window with out a rush of mossies), the bathroom was not nice (in order to brush my teeth my toothbrush could barely fit between the faucet and the grimy sink to rinse the brush) nor could i wash my hands in the faucet that was right against the sink basin. There was no trash can in the room, pillows with scratchy lace around the edges, and no mat to wipe your feet after using the toilet/shower. The people who work there were nice, but pushy...and seemed to linger around the table, trying to get you to commit to use them if you needed anything...ie a moto/tuk tuk, tickets to snookie etc. The room was indeed cheap, and the deck nice...but i wouldn't stay there again.
