TAT Guest House

Slightly better than Narin's next door

Next door to Narin Guesthouse and offering identical prices, TAT has slightly better rooms and a common area on the third storey. The high points of the hotel are the rooftop lounge and the kindness of the family running the place -- some Travelfish readers rate their visit as akin to a home stay. The owner has also opened a second location, TAT 2, at nearby 62 Street 125, which is slightly more upscale, with all rooms having private baths. At the original location, you feel more like you're living in someone's house and the restaurant upstairs is more like someone's dining room -- open and welcoming. Everyone is warm, friendly, and willing to offer travel advice.

Friendly and cheap - 2nd February, 2008
The staff here is super friendly. It did feel sort of like a homestay, as someone else wrote. We liked hanging out on the balcony upstairs. The rooms here are ok, ours was kinda dingy but for the price, hard to beat. We also got our passports and onward tickets through Tat, which was easy and quick. The location's not great - a significant walk from anywhere you might want to go. Tuk tuk rides are cheap, though - $1 to $2, I think. A final note: try the muesli with yoghurt for breakfast.

A Truly Wonderful Khmer Family - 11th March, 2006
TAT is located in a very quiet part of the city. This is certainly a bonus and gives the traveller a nice view of Phnom Penh outside the usual tourist haunts. The rooms are on the dingy side but it is very affordable and the roofside restaurant/hang out area is fantastic. Enough kind words cannot be said for the family who runs this place. My wife and I had a very good time with them and enjoyed our stay.

Good family guesthouse - 27th December, 2009
Stayed here for 7$, double bed, fan, hot shower. Didn't ever see the rooftop lounge, but they had a nice common area on the 3rd floor, a really nice, accomodating family, but if you want a little peace and quiet and privacy, this is not the place for you. There are little kids running around constantly, and this is where the large family actually lives, so there are personal family things strewn alongside common guest house things, its kinda weird. We will try to tat too next.

Shifted to sister guesthouse Tat Too :) - 18th May, 2009
We booked a place at Tat Guesthouse, but the tuk-tuk driver who picked us up from the guesthouse brought us to Tat Too instead, saying the owner had rooms for us there. It felt a bit dodgy, but we changed our minds when we saw the rooms - THEY ARE HUGE :D The guesthouse looks a bit dodgy when you go in, kinda dim reception area and the stairs and corridors to get to the rooms are also not too great. But really, the size and cleanliness of the rooms totally makes up for it! A double room had two beds, each bed was queen-sized. The en suite toilet was also large and clean. There was also an option for a/c but the fan was good enough as the room was very airy. The staff are also really nice and accommodating! 1. We originally booked 3 rooms, but seeing how huge the beds were we decided to take only 2. The owner didn't seem too enthused about this arrangement but we managed to settle it quickly and pleasantly by paying an extra fee for the additional people bunking in. 2. Certain light switches were not working in our rooms. They got around to fixing it immediately. 3. They helped us book a coach to get to Siem Reap for a really good price! Cheaper than what we saw online. The coach wasn't the cleanest thing around but it was decent and very convenient to have a smaller bus pick us up from the guesthouse to the bus station in the city. The guesthouse is also walking distance from a supermarket (convenient!) and also a slightly walking distance from the Tuol Sleng genocide museum. Might need some map navigating for the latter, but it was a worthwhile effort since you also get to explore the neighbourhood that way.

Highly Recommended - 28th January, 2008
We stayed here on two separate occasions in October 2007. We really enjoyed our stay at TAT. The family who runs the place is really friendly -- it felt like a homestay for us. We often thought about them after we left Cambodia. They also arranged our bus trips to Siem Reap and Vietnam as well as our Vietnam visas. A double room with fan and private washroom with satellite TV(Premiership games!) for US$6 is pretty hard to beat. And the food was great!

ok for one night stay - 28th July, 2007
We were really welcomed when we arrived at TAT. It was really a warm feeling. And the room is clean. Everything would be perfect if the toilets were cleaner and more useable (one toilet is spoilt and another one has a spoilt door, and they are not very clean) and the food was served quicker. We had to wait for half an hour for just noodle. In general, it's ok if we stay there for just one night. The price is really cheap and maybe we can't expect more.

had a great time there - 12th August, 2006
we stayed there for 3 times (going to siem reap and back, then to shianoukville and back)between 10.july and 6. august 2006 and we always felt like coming home, when we arrived there. it is a great place with lovely athmosphere. the staff is very helpfull and the family is very nice and gives you the feeling been welcome. the roofterrace is like a living room and a great relaxingplace after strolling through the town. We also had a look to the boeng kak area, but there it is like a kao san ghetto. in tat guesthouse you can get a real cambodia feeling. looking forward to come again there.

Very Sociable - 3rd June, 2005
My wife and I stayed here in February and even though the rooms were ok the social was wonderful especially as it was shared with the family who own the place. The owners and staff were extremely helpful and gave us excellent advice on travelling to other parts of Cambodia. Recommend it for the social area alone.
