Description
The staff here are invariably rude and though the rooms are adequate plenty of other places have far better staff. This aside, the air-con rooms are quite large, though the fan ones have super soft mattresses. Check out Narin or TAT before committing to a night at the Capitol.

My friend and I spent a quick night in PP, and out of laziness, we stayed here as we were hoping on a bus in 14 hours from the bus stop next door. The room was fine, although cost us $15 - the highest on our trip to that point - and wasn't really worth the money. The TV was great to drown out the noise from the street below. Sleep with earplugs if you'd like and zzz's at all.

And walk away. Don't stay here unless your dependant on the Lonely Planet. Then do stay here and know you wasted your spendings.

Not much to say really -

The guesthouse was pretty dingy and the air con not great, but the staff were okay enough. The cafe downstairs is practically a bus station with all the tour buses coming and going and can be noisy in the early morning. Capitol is not really near many bars, just the Teuki Bar which is nice, but a little expensive and the food is hit and miss there. We are coming back to PP but plan to try a different guesthouse. It can be loud at night if other residents are up drinking and chatting on the balconies.

Have you stayed at Capitol Guest House? What did you think?

Top Banana Guesthouse
Corner St 51 & St 278, Phnom Penh
Top Banana Guesthouse is situated on the top floor of a three-storey building on the corner of Pasteur (Street 51) and Street 278. With a shaded and breezy, hammock-strewn rooftop terrace, this is a great place to escape the midday heat. Travelfish users have raved about this being a top spot for... more

Narin Guest House
#50 Street 125, Phnom Penh
Narin is not very well located unless you plan on spending much of your time hanging around Phsar Orasay or Teukei bar, but it's still very popular with backpackers -- probably because its rooms are reasonable and the staff friendly. The rates are good and a pleasant restaurant on the 2nd storey... more

Sunday Guesthouse and Restaurant
#97 Street 141, Phnom Penh
Located on a dirt road behind Olympic Stadium, this friendly place has a beautiful patio on the third floor. Rooms are homely but clean with hot water bathrooms and a small TV in each. The staff are pleasant, and a selection of tour books can be borrowed from the lobby. They offer a full-service... more

TAT Guest House
52E1 Street 125, Phnom Penh
Next door to Narin Guesthouse and offering identical prices, TAT has slightly better rooms and a common area on the third storey. You feel more like you're living in someone's house here than at Narin and the restaurant upstairs is more like someone's dining room -- open and... more

Narin 2 Guesthouse
20 Street 111, Phnom Penh
The Narin 2 is right next door to the Seng Sokhom, but there are some real contrasts -- it's a well-worn part of a group tour operation, so a hideaway it is not. Still, like its neighbour, the rooms are quite decent for the price -- spacious and clean, with tile floors. Choose from a huge variety... more

Seng Sokhom Guest House
22E1 Street 111, Phnom Penh
This is a very down-to-earth place in an out-of-the way location -- probably the most Cambodian guest house we've seen that, at the same time, wouldn't be too dodgy for foreigners. In fact it's just the opposite: a laid back family-run place that's such a great little hideaway from the crowds we... more
