Orchid Guesthouse is one of the newer guesthouses in Kampot and has settled in well in the budget quarter around Blissful Guesthouse. Orchid offers a range of accommodation, from rooms in a Khmer-style villa through to bungalows. Most are clean, though some of the bathrooms can be smelly, so ask to see a few rooms if possible. The bungalows have a nice, soft atmosphere that's a pleasant break from tile-and-brass overload that typifies budget guesthouses in Cambodia. Overall it's better value than the Kampot Guesthouse (primarily because there's a lot less hassle to buy tours here), but not quite as good as Blissful. Orchid also has a small bookshop and there's a restaurant on site, as well as several small ponds that are nice but a bit overgrown with plantlife. The English-speaking owner is very friendly and helpful and can give accurate information on the surrounds. Both motorcycles and bicycles can be hired.

By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. A relaxed place to stay - 10th April, 2007
Orchid Guesthouse has nice and friendly staff who will help you out and can organise tours to Bokor and elsewhere. The fan bungalows (US$10) are pretty nice and fine, although bug infested, and the air-con ones look very comfortable at least from the outside. The strange overgrown pond in the yard gives out a bit of a smell though, and no doubt adds to the bug problem. Apart from that, a very relaxed, nice place to stay.

Friendly haven - 5th May, 2009
Only stayed at the orchid for one night, but were struck by how friendly and helpful the staff were. The owner is very knowledgable about the area, and runs a tour company. I would stress however that there was absolutely no pressure to take any tours. We stayed in a bungalow that was very clean, with excellent facilities. The a/c looked ancient but was incredibly effective. The food was also excellent, in a smart lilttle restaurant area. We arranged our trip to kep from here at a bargain price of a couple of dollars, and were dropped off on our guesthouses doorstep. Overall it was smiles all around, from us and our hosts.

Comfy, Quiet, but smelly - 7th April, 2009
Spent five nights in a bungalow...they gave us a deal ($12 if we didn't use the aircon). Lovely garden, affordable restaurant, but the bathroom omitted a constant stink. Much incense was burnt combating sewer smell. Also, although they offer tours, and have dedicated moto/tuk-tuk drivers, the tours are uninspired and kind of dull.

Fan rooms not good value - 26th March, 2009
We stayed here for half a day. We wanted to stay at Blissful GH but it was full and ended up at Orchid in a $5 fan room with no windows that was so dusty and moldy that I felt like I would get ill just from sleeping in the room. We moved to another GH in the south end of town that was infinitely nicer and better value.
To be far, Orchid GH does have other, nicer rooms, but at the end of February they wanted $12 USD for a musty, dark fan bungalow overlooking a sludge filled pond. The air-con rooms were better option at $15 USD but the room had still seen much better days.
