A chilled out spot
If Banyan Tree isn't chilled out enough, just keep on heading north on the zoo road and you'll eventually reach Arcadia, formerly Utopia.
Bought by an enterprising young fellow from Tipperary in 2012, this seriously hidden-away spot is on the west bank of Kampot River around seven kilometres north of town, and he’s put a lot into doing it up.
Aside from eating and drinking while laying around the large, wooden porch that hangs over the river, the main pastime here seems to involve getting wet. The many means to achieve that include jumping off the pier, floating around in inner tubes, and using a rope-swing across the river. They can also organise boat trips, kayaking and plenty more. There’s also a volleyball court if you’ve still got the energy. If all that wet is too much, they can set up jungle treks if enough people book it.
There's a range of accommodation to suit your pocket, including the Binge Barn 12-bed dorm off the bar, three-person hot-shower bungalows and the party Penthouse, which can sleep up to seven and comes with its own widescreen TV. The dorms are clean and well-priced with individual lockers and the private rooms boast impressive river views and a quieter night's sleep. An emphasis on drink promotions and music helps to pass the time -- this is a fun laidback spot to lose a few days and nights.
