If Bodhi Villa isn't chilled out enough, then just keep on heading north on the zoo road and you'll eventually reach Utopia. Under German leadership and related to the Utopia at Sihanoukville, this seriously hidden-away spot is situated on the Kampot River around 7km north of Kampot town -- on the west bank of the river. Facilities are pretty rudimentary, but the lodgings are clean and there's a welcoming vibe to the place. Aside from laying around eating and drinking, the main pastime here seems to involve getting wet, and there's many means to achieve that, including jumping off the pier, floating around in their inner tubes, and, for the truly energetic, there's a rope-swing you can swim out to. A new crop of construction has sprung up providing bookend accommodation to their already existing rooms. On one side are solid dorm beds that come complete with private locker and on the other, more upscale private bungalows with en-suite facilities and balconies outfitted with comfy chairs. The latter are sweetly decorated and feel deliciously remote. A fun laid back spot to lose a few days.
