Pepper Guesthouse
Slightly more upscale than competitors

What we say:
Set in a pleasant Khmer-style villa near Blissful et al, this new entrant to the backpacker strip is a fine alternative. It's much more pleasant than Kampot Guesthouse, and cleaner and quieter than either Blissful or Orchid. Porches are at both the rear and the front for lounging, while an adjacent, thatch-roof restaurant serves mostly Khmer and some Western food. Rooms are simple but clean and bright, with big windows and thick mattresses. There's free bicycle use and internet.

Nice, but buy tickets elsewhere if crossing the border
I stayed here for 4 nights. First night they only had a 10usd room - quite nice. Then I moved to a 7usd room (fan, single bed and cold water I think), which was ok, but made me miss my 10 dollars suite. The food is all right, breakfast is better than lunch I'd say. The famous bokor hill station tour was extremely disappointing. The boys who work at the reception are nice, but if you are crossing the border to Vietnam buy your ticket elsewhere, preferably somewhere recommended. I thought about making it easier and buying a ticket from the GH, who told me the journey was directly from Kampot to Can Tho on a five hours journey. I ended up spending more than 10hrs on a trip from hell. After crossing the border me and 2 other guys were put in a minivan with no explanations, the kind of minibus who goes ridiculously slowly, picking up people until there is absolute no space left and them dropping them of at the same speed. After hours we changed minivans and did the other 3 hours the same way. I don't know at what point Pepper GH is aware of this, but they charged $18 and put me in the cheapest slowest minivans around, so someone is getting that money.

Average
Paid $6 for a fan double room for 2 persons, air-con rooms were full. Room was pretty basic and bathroom very small and narrow. Staff were fairly friendly. Moved to Kampot Guesthouse next day where we had a better room.

good quality
i got a double room for 9 dollars with hot shower, fan, Tv, and a comfortable king size bed. Spotless room, friendly staff, free bicycle rental, and good service. Set is a very quiet location (free from traffic) beside the Blissful Guest house.

Nice option
Stayed here for 10 dollars, including fan, hot shower, king size bed, free wifi. The room was clean, wood floors, the bathroom was clean, tiled, and everything is of high quality. The guesthouse is near other guesthouses, so check around for price. 5 minute walk to the riverfront, chill vibe.
