Cosy and quiet
Kampot Road, Kep T: (099) 504 820, (089) 859 211, (012) 715 588
Almost equidistant between the beach and the crab market (400m each way), The Boat House is actually two Khmer houses set about 100m apart in their own garden.
The front house, closest to the road, contains the reception, the kitchen and slightly cheaper rooms, while the house behind has larger rooms and a big TV lounge. Rooms vary in decor and amenities, so it's worth looking at both residences before you make your choice. There's some sweet design touches, like curtains made from kramas and beds fashioned from railway sleepers, that elevate The Boat House from an ordinary budget guesthouse. There's plenty of shady spaces to lounge around and chat, but Chrisophe, the French owner, will happily share his local knowledge and suggest motorbike rides and other sights for the more active. The kitchen serves up tasty Khmer and French dishes, including big fluffy omelettes. The Boat House is favoured by families and travellers looking for a friendly, quiet stay.
