Angkor Chum
Khmer hospitality

What we say:
Angkor Chum opened for business in January 2011, and its popularity means all six bungalows are regularly filled with customers who keep extending their stay. The bungalows are simple, but built directly on the beach on stilts allowing for an unobstructed view of the sea. They boast a balcony with chairs or hammocks and wind chimes made from seashells. The ensuite bathrooms have showers and clean tiled floors and generally the standard is a little higher than Sok San Bungalows resort next door. The place is run by the very pleasant village chief, Mr Chruk, who can organise a boat from Sihanoukville for $20, or you can catch the local ferry for $5 which runs every second day. Next to the bungalows on a pier overlooking the water is a restaurant that serves Khmer food with a good selection of the fresh catch of the day. Easily the best option on this part of the island.

good place, bored staff
The accommodation is very basic and rustic which is ok. What was not ok, the very unhelpful bored staff who once didn’t come to clean (we stayed eight nights), change towels (one was even missing when we arrived), we had to go ask for toilet paper to the restaurant every other day. English very limited. Ridiculous lack of service for 20 dollars per night. And “btw†the five or six bungalows are surrounded by a small khmer village, et the other end of the village are further 10-15 bungalows and few hundred meters away there was just at that time (jan 2013) a new resort built. The whole beach is very long (you walk for about one or two hours to the other end of it) and the rest totally empty. The see was nice but blur. When you stay longer like we did, the catering options become boring – not big choice. Anyway, the place was great, quiet, nice sand, relaxin, altogether we enjoyed it despite of the money-spoiled staff.

Cold Khmers on a hot island
We've spent one week in the bungalows to recharge for the next six months en route. See is warn and cleanness ok (when not extremely windy), but not totally pure water. The bungalows are very very basic and rustic, just two double beds, one table, two chairs, that's it. No hangers nothing. We didn't mind that. What we did is the attitude of the owners. This beach is quite quiet, just 6 angkor chum bungalows, small village and another about 10-15 bungalows near the pier. However they were building a new resort at the time we visited. The owners (owning also one of the two restaurants available there) were polite but not interested in their guests at all. during this time our bungalow has not been cleaned once, everyday we had to go ask for refill of toilet paper, soap they sad they dont have, towels were not changed. First night we paid the nowadays regular price - 20dollars, the rest of our stay we bargained for 15 for the bungalow. The food choice on the island is quite limited if you stay a week or so. For a few days it's ok. The beach is very long, you can be alone if you go away from the village.
