Simple and authentic
M'pay Bay Bungalows is named after the small fishing village where they are located.
The simple wood and thatch bungalows look out onto the sea over a rocky beach. There's nothing fancy -- the bathrooms all have scoop-bucket showers and electricity is available from 18:00 till 24:00 -- but the bungalows are perfectly adequate with clean linen, the staff are friendly and accommodating and it's in a good location. The rocks give way to yellow sanded Long beach with excellent snorkelling possibilities. If you're sensitive to noise you may want to bring earplugs -- village life wouldn't be complete without a few crowing roosters and barking dogs. M'Pay Bay Bungalows gives a good taste of rural living. According to other business owners on the island this place is set to close some time in 2014 as the land changes ownership; the current owner is already building new bungalows the other end of the village in anticipation of this, to be called Big Moon.
