Saracen Bay, Koh Rong Samloem T: (016) 997 047
Saracen Bay Resort has a run of impeccably clean bungalows situated on the sand and spaced out well.
They're at the northern end of the bay creating greater privacy, though a couple of other properties -- Rumi and Freedom Island -- are reached on a separate part of the bay via a trail by the overwater restaurant, so a small amount of footfall passing by could be expected. Carefully designed and located, they are one of the top picks on the island for comfort while still representing value for money. The bungalows have three-tier roofs, with thatch for aesthetics inside and out sandwiching metal for rain and insect protection. Mosquito screens allow in light while keeping the little biters away. The tiled bedroom has a comfy bed with a princess mosquito net, a wardrobe, table and fan, while big windows lead onto a large shaded veranda fronting the beach. White painted walls give a less rustic feeling to the bedroom interiors. The sparklingly pristine bathrooms come with flush toilets and big showers. The elevated deck restaurant protrudes over the water and won't be heard from the bungalows -- even the generator is discreetly placed to reduce noise. The restaurant attracts guests from outside too for the setting. Given the high standards and associated prices, customers tend to be older couples on romantic escapes, creating their very own fantasy island experience. By bungalow standards on Cambodia's islands, Saracen Bay Resort is very well priced for what you get. In the same price bracket is Lazy Beach which provides much more rustic bungalows but a private beach. Comfier and costlier alternatives this side of the island include Secret Paradise Resort, Paradise Bungalows – The Villas, or one of the premium bungalows at The Beach.
