Coasters
Slightly overpriced

What we say:
This comfortable guesthouse was back in the day a great choice with wooden bungalows scattered over the hillside behind their small restaurant. In 2004-2005 Coasters upgraded to a large concrete setup (though some of the wooden huts remain) and as a result lost much of its appeal. Their beachfront rooms these days are woefully overpriced, with rates as high as $60 a night, and the rooms further back are also high at $25. If you don't mind paying these rates, you will get a very clean air-con room. The bungalows are fairly priced though, with the larger ones having balconies overlooking the sea and art from Cambodian Children's Painting Project. Overall, positive changes have occurred since our last visit but this still isn't our favourite spot on the beach.

loud but ok
stayed here for six nights in a wooden hut for 16$. also had the thumpthumping from the nearby barclub every night, bring earplugs. they have mosquitonets and incents which you really need to use. huts are very basic with smelly shower and not a lot of space, but nice balcony with seaview. service was very good for both hotel and restaurant. if you are not looking for parties and restaurants, you should go to otres beach which is a lot quieter, nicer and more beachside than serendipity. what was really annoying is that i you hang out at serendipity beach people constantly try to sell you stuff; and you cannot really walk down the beach from coasters as it is very narrow and there are a lot of rocks and boats.

Just ok
We paid US$20 for the room. A little run down, but clean. We were overcharged on two occasions in the restaurant. So make sure you check the bill.

Very Nice
Stayed at Coasters 3 nights in December and was impressed by the friendly and helpful staff. The bunglaows were nice, and had nice balconies, and very convenient (thus the prices, but still resonable I think)and the staff do not enter your rooms at all during the stay, so if you want more towels, toilet paper, etc you have to get it at the front desk. The food is also excellent at Coasters and I will definitely stay there again. My only complaint is that you can hear the thump-thumping of the music at the bars down the beach away, so earplugs are advised if you are a light sleeper. (That **** music is cranked at every bar along the beach and I assume it is even louder on other parts of Serendipity)

Relaxing on the beach!
After taking the bus from Phnom Penh and arriving in Sihanoukville on my own, I was relieved to recognize my name on a poster in between all the crazy tuk-tuk drivers.. Coasters organised me a pick-up!yay! When I arrived at Coasters, I asked whether I could change my booking from a bungalow to an air-con. Although they were basically fully booked, they organised me a beautifully cleaned, air-con. Wow.. that's customer service! I spent my days relaxing in their restaurant.. on the beach. Enjoying the super hamburger & yummy pancakes! I loved Serendipity beach.. fresh air.. cool weather.. beautiful view.. going for a swim! The managers and staff was very friendly! The manager even organised me a ''wake-up-call''/ ''wake-up-knock'' for my last morning.. in order to catch my bus back to Phnom Penh on time! They don't usually organised wake-up calls on the beach.. so this was an exception. Thank you! I really enjoyed staying at Coasters!

Choose another spot
I was traveling with a girlfriend of mine for several months through Asia Pacific. We chose Coasters because of the ideal location on the beach and nice deck setup and looking forward to unwinding. However that is where the positives of the experience stopped. We had hoped to stay longer but ended up leaving after two nights. The staff was rude and were not very helpful. The rooms were pretty run down and inadequate for the price. When we did decide to leave, we found that the initial price agreed for the room had risen by US$10. Out of all of the places we stayed at during our travels, this was by far the worst one. There are so many other great spots on the beach. The place has a lot of potential but the managers are just unwilling to make it happen. Choose another location to stay, the hassle of this place isn't worth the money.

Coasters Convert
This is the best place I have stayed in in Cambodia... period. I arrived with three or four days in mind and left eleven days later (three of those days were on the islands ) It's about as relaxing a place as you can find. It's becoming the artist hangout in Sihanoukville, great banter and delicious food. Staff were very friendly... check out Socheat the barman and Nee the waitress with her kneeless jeans. Also the manager Ravuth. The Cambodians are beautiful people.

Nice view from the huts
I liked the place a lot. The huts is just the kind of home that made me slow down and relax. Serendipity is a wonderful place to calm down, great view from the huts. It's quiet at night, but still close to everything going on in along the beach. And Don is a nice man. I stayed before the upgrading, but atmosphere can't all be gone?

Didn't love it
The place was in a semi state of chaos when we were there with building noise and materials all over the place. The rooms were more expensive than we were told, in low season the cheapest they offered us was US$15. Granted, the views from the lounge area were nice but every time we ordered a meal it was wrong, with the dish being either totally different or just not ever appearing. We found the staff pretty unhelpful and sullen. We couldn't have had a more different experience to Fletcher.

Loved it
The location is unbeatable. You can have a quiet evening or go next door and party at Eden. The lounge area is supremely comfortable and great for reading, relaxing. everyone who works there is excellent. We loved don's Leonard Cohen every morning and Ravuth was so helpful and knowledgeable as well as the rest of the staff. the rooms were very clean and breezy. coasters RULES!
