Monkey Republic opened with a bang back in 2005 and is still going strong. From their packed restaurant and bar out front to consistently booked rooms inside, this backpacker favourite is here to stay. Rooms are laid out in an attached bungalow style and weave around a small garden area strewn with banana palms. Bright blue wooden exteriors house more muted interiors, all with fan and private bathroom. A newer addition features slightly bigger rooms -- with the same low price tag -- and are perfect for those travelling in threes. This lively spot has lots of extras to keep you busy including two TV rooms with a collection of over 300 movies and a Sony Play station to get your videogame fix. The restaurant/bar serves up big portions of traditional pub food at reasonable prices alongside a thriving pool table. All the action makes this a great spot for stay-up-late types; early-to-bedders should bring earplugs or ask for a room toward the back. Five minutes walk from Serendipity Beach.

Yea, this place can be cool, it's along a row of other similar places. I never stayed here, but I did drink a beer at the bar, that was enough for me to say ya'll are ok in my book (although not mentioned in my real book). Most of the places I have stayed are not on this website. I would consider staying here if I was lost and could not get a room anywhere else on my list of places that are acceptable to my comforts.

Basic but good budget option - 25th May, 2006
The bungalows are all fan cooled and have basic cold water amenities, but face it when you're at the beach you're not going to spend much time in your hut! The staff are friendly and the bar lively. Food is pretty uninspiring, but cheap and it's only three minutes walk to the beach. Ask for a bungalow towards the back of the garden if you don't want to be kept up by the hopping crowd and trendy tunes coming from the bar at night. The latest the music lasted when we were there was 2am. $6 for a bungalow.

Had a great time here.friendly owners and clean rooms..easily accessible, though kinda noisy at night. But the most important thing is that.....they played my fav. brit-rock songs all night long. lovely.! they do that too at Sessions Bar, by the beach. blisss.

great owners - 27th September, 2008
Didn't stay here but did drink here every night and partied with the owners. Brilliant location and excellent choice of budget accommodation, great place to meet other travellers and have fun.

Cheap, lively, good toasties - 10th October, 2007
Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Bungalows felt damp, but understandably so in rainy season. Free drink on arrival. Sihanoukville has a very creepy vibe at night, and especially I felt uneasy around the moto drivers that hang around all the time. But, here I felt safe, chatted with the night guard, and met many other travellers. They discounted to $5 for low season. I would stay here again!

Munky Bunky - 14th March, 2007
The bungalows are damp dark and all heaped together as in a barracks and not cheap for the location which is on the busy major beach road. The bar is ok and the staff friendly but the noise at night is appalling. There is a cacophony of blasting noise from various bars both Khmer and foreign all within spitting distance of each other. If you are deaf or love atrocious noise then fine ... this is the place for you.
