Must be doing something right
On the hill behind Serendipity Beach, Sihanoukville
Sihanoukville Province
Tel: (012) 490 290

Description
The reasonably new Monkey Republic (opened in August 2005) must be doing something right as everytime we dropped by (three times in three days) it was full and we couldn't take a peak inside the rooms. What we could see were cute little blue wooden affairs all with fan and private bathroom -- all set out behind the bar in a small garden area strewn with banana palms. With a busy and popular bar out front this should be popular with those who like to stay up late, if your an early one to bed, pack the earplugs. Call ahead to make a reservation or to arrange a pickup from the bus station. Five minutes walk from Serendipity Beach.

Total rooms: 14

Dbl fan private b'room
7 USD (low season) 7 USD (high season)

Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Bungalows felt damp, but understandably so in rainy season. Free drink on arrival. Sihanoukville has a very creepy vibe at night, and especially I felt uneasy around the moto drivers that hang around all the time. But, here I felt safe, chatted with the night guard, and met many other travelers. They discounted to $5 for low season. I would stay here again!

Yea, this place can be cool, it's along a row of other similar places. I never stayed here, but I did drink a beer at the bar, that was enough for me to say ya'll are ok in my book (although not mentioned in my real book). Most of the places I have stayed are not on this website. I would consider staying here if I was lost and could not get a room anywhere else on my list of places that are acceptable to my comforts.

The bungalows are damp dark and all heaped together as in a barracks and not cheap for the location which is on the busy major beach road. The bar is ok and the staff friendly but the noise at night is appalling. There is a cacophony of blasting noise from various bars both Khmer and foreign all within spitting distance of each other. If you are deaf or love atrocious noise then fine...this is the place for you.

Basic but good budget option -

The bungalows are all fan cooled and have basic cold water amenities, but face it when your at the beach you're not going to spend much time in your hut! The staff are friendly and the bar lively. Food is pretty uninspiring, but cheap and it's only 3 mins walk to the beach. Ask for a bungalow towards the back of the garden if you don't want to be kept up by the hopping crowd and trendy tunes coming from the bar at night. The lastest the music lasted when we were there was 2am. $6 for a bungalow.
