Occheuteal Guesthouse

Better when the manager is in town
Description
Located on a quiet offshoot from the Golden Lion monument, we'd expected an expansive place with personal touches from viewing their website. Instead, a manager reluctantly tore himself away from a meal with his extended family to show us a few rooms. Occheuteal is probably better-run when the Australian owner is in town, but apparently that's only once or twice a year. Rooms are typical of many Cambodian guesthouses built in modern Khmer style: slick tiles, heavy woodwork and cool concrete construction. There's no food available for guests, unusual in a town where many guesthouses supplement room rates with restaurant sales. Still, good restaurants are only a five minute walk away. The Occheuteal is a nice enough place, and very clean, but there are better options nearer the beach.

Occheuteal Guesthouse was fantastic -- clean room with nice beds, lovely bathroom, air-con and fridge so you can buy your own fruit and drinks. The little balcony was just the right place to sit and relax. It's set in a lovely tropical garden and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Its just a 2 minute stroll from the beach. It's my place of choice and for the price, I can't recommend it highly enough.
