Mushroom Point

It's mushroom mania

What we say: 4 stars

Since opening at the end of 2011, Mushroom Point has quickly become one of Sihanoukville's best known and best loved places to stay. It's situated on chilled out Otres Beach and boasts clean, big and round bungalows -- some private and others dorms -- that look like thatch-roofed mushrooms and have quirky features like round beds draped in mosquito nets.

Choose between a beach mushroom or settle into the garden editions for a hilariously hobbit-like environment. Mushroom Point has free WiFi and a popular beach bar/restaurant that serves up outstanding omelettes for breakfast and a Mediterranean inspired menu that we've heard great things about.

The vibe is exceptionally laid back, and our only complaint is that staff are perhaps a bit too relaxed, although they sure do seem to put some effort into selecting the mellow eclectic music that softly thumps all day. We guess that with the mushrooms almost always booked up solid, even in low season, they don't feel the need to go above and beyond. It's a minor gripe, and Mushroom Point fully deserves the great reputation it has thanks to no shortage of character and solid value to boot. Reserving ahead strongly recommended.
