Tucked away in the trees
Hidden away in the trees at the western end of the beach, Cloud 9 is still one of the better value spots on Serendipity.
The wooden bungalows are built on stilts into a hill, thus some have amazing ocean views from balconies slung with hammocks. The rooms are reasonably well maintained, en suite and spotless. The shoreside area has a pleasant restaurant and covered bar plus private sun-loungers. If you’re visiting over a weekend get there early to be in with a chance of a room, as Cloud 9 does not always take reservations, although some report being able to make them via email. If you’re visiting during high season, the noise from the beach bars on Ochheuteal can be very disruptive at night, with parties going on until dawn, and then of course the revellers have to make their noisy ways home. Another word of warning about the very lovely walk to the north of Cloud 9: do not attempt this with any personal belongings on you. Young thieves hang out among the rocks like modern-day, albeit boatless, pirates and are known to be violent in their quest for your treasures.
