Long running riverside option
River Rd, Battambang
Battambang Province

Description
The very long-running Angkor is where we've always stayed in Battambang. Not because the rooms are very good (they're nothing special) but just because it's one of only two spots on the city side of the river and it's miles ahead of the dire Monorom -- the only other option on this side of the river. Rooms are large and come in both air-con and fan varieties, with the former being by far the better option. Other amenities include warmish-water bathrooms, cable TV, large fridges and a couple of other random sticks of furniture. The upper floor has a terrace area with a few relics of festy lounges from where you can enjoy what breeze you can find. We've repeatedly found the motodops out front here to be amongst the best in town. The Angkor is also convenient to a couple of the best places in town for a feed.

Royal Hotel
Just west of Psar Nath, Battambang
If you're in the market for a cheap, clean hotel, which is popular with other travellers, then the Royal Hotel, but a hop skip and a jump from Phsar Nath in the centre of Battambang is difficult to beat. Like the other cheapies in town, the Royal has stacks of rooms in a rambling, Chinese-hotel... more

Golden River Hotel
234 St 3, Battambang
The one good thing about the Golden River is that it's cheap -- that's about it. For just a little more money you'll do far better with the digs at the Royal or even the Chhaya, but if, for some unimaginable reason they're both full, the Golden River is adequate for a night. They were given it a... more

Paris Hotel
St 3, Battambang
Only if all is full, including the nearby Golden River, should the Paris Hotel even be considered. So grandiose a name but oh such a shambles! The room we were shown was absolutely rank -- it smelt so bad we initially thought they were joking but no, in we plunged with an aroma so sickly we were... more

Chhaya Hotel
118 Street 3, Battambang
The second of the big backpacker-orientated hotels in Battambang, the rambling Chhaya is a typical Chinese-style hotel, with stacks of rooms, in a near-endless variety of price combinations. Rooms are available both as fan-cooled or air-con and cable tv, warm water bathrooms are standard while some... more

Bus Stop
149 Street 2, Battambang
Run by an Australian-Khmer couple, the Bus Stop has a handful of rooms in a shopfront building just a couple of blocks back from the river. Rooms are basic, no frills affairs but they're clean and the owners are a friendly, chatty couple. Downstairs is a cosy bar in the afternoon and evening and... more
