Chhaya Hotel

Another popular backpacker spot

The second of the big backpacker-orientated hotels in Battambang, the rambling Chhaya is a typical Chinese-style hotel, with stacks of rooms, in a near-endless variety of price combinations. Rooms are available both as fan-cooled or air-con and cable tv, warm water bathrooms are standard while some of the fancier rooms come with small fridges. Beds are very soft -- not a spring in sight. The rooms at the rear of the building are well insulated from the street racket and there's a travel agent downstairs that can assist in all manner of onwards travel arrangements. Overall it's an ok choice, but the nearby Royal is better -- both in quality, cleanliness and friendliness.

Solid Choice - 1st August, 2009
My room, at the back of the hotel, was spacious and spotless, and quiet. Staff were pleasant and helpful. I was particularly enthused about my moto driver (Mr. Odam) who I hooked up with here. Took me on a splendid all-day tour of temples, villages and countryside.

Good Option - 24th February, 2009
Stayed for a couple of nights in Jan '09. From the time the boat docks until you are in a no frills but pleasant room about 3 mins elapses. Once the small issues with towels and power were resolved (very quickly), we found this hotel to be comfortable and the staff friendly enough. The drivers/guides we used from within the hotel lobby took us on a very enjoyable afternoon around Battambang.

Good value and location - 23rd April, 2008
Convenient location in Battambang (next to Psar Chaa) and for only US$7 a night (3-person room with fan and private bathroom) – we can't really complain. But always remember to see their rooms before checking in because some rooms are cleaner than the others.
