Home Sweet Home Guesthouse

A typical budget guesthouse

With 60-odd rooms, Home Sweet Home does a big turnover of budget travellers. It's a plain, new Khmer-style building with cement walls and bathroom tile floors, but the hallways are wide and the rooms are large and clean, with cable TV and well maintained bathrooms, but there's precious little to distinguish this place from a cheap hotel. For the standard, prices are not unreasonable and if you're staying more than a night or two you should be able to wangle a discount easily.

Ugh - 17th March, 2007
Nowhere else to stay during high season! We spent three nights here, and grumbled incessantly about the lack of decent lighting in the "spacious" rooms, dirty sheets and loud hallways. Unfortunately, we were also duped into buying bus tickets to Bangkok from the hotel on what turned out to be scam buses. We luckily were able to escape the death trap of a bus and hitchhike to the border, at a loss of US$20 for both of us. Anyways, stay at the Two Dragons if you can.

Don't stay next door! - 28th April, 2008
We stayed next door at the Happy Guesthouse and were very unhappy there. First, we got food poisoning from eating lunch at the guesthouse. Then, we ran into problems with the very dodgy staff. We felt quite harassed by the staff, with one tuk tuk driver following us out one night, seating himself at our table, and proceeding to drink from our glasses of drink! Strange... So if you can't get a room at Home Sweet Home, don't settle for the seemingly nice guesthouse next door -- you've been warned!

Sigh... it's okay - 7th February, 2008
We stayed here for three nights, only because our other three guesthouse choices couldn't accommodate us. The room was fine, and the bathrooms were more spacious than others we encountered. We didn't have any noise issues with the hallways as others seem to have had. My main issue was with the staff. As two female travellers, we always felt as if we were being leered at. Add to that, the staff were never able to provide anything when they said they would (don't believe them when they say your laundry will be back in the morning!). For what it was, it was fine... but I don't think it was worth $15!

Great value - 3rd February, 2008
We stayed here for three nights and found the place to be good. You can't complain for 12 bucks anyway. Clean, spacious and private. Staff were very friendly but the hallways are loud in the morning. The pizza place across the street does great breakfast as well.

5 Nights In Siem Reap - 16th October, 2004
Nice spacious rooms with vaulted ceilings. The location is US$1 ride to the markets and such via tuk-tuk. The family was friendly. The little Internet cafe on-site had much to be desired for, though. Luckily there are other cafes nearby.
