Where is Shadow of Angkor?

Shadow of Angkor

Good location, mediocre facilities

Shadow of Angkor (previously Rasmei Angkor) is one of the few budget places overlooking the Siem Reap River in Siem Reap's Old Market area. It feels a bit like a revolving door for backpackers, and the windowless fan rooms away from the river are cramped, smelly and overpriced compared to what we saw elsewhere. If you stay here, go for the river view rooms. What redeems this place is the long terraced veranda where you can spend the hot midday hours taking it easy in style. Some of the rooms are poorly lit and the second flight of stairs is precarious, so watch your step -- especially if you've been over on Bar Street. An internet cafe is on the first floor and the adjacent restaurant is decent, if a bit overpriced. The hotel's best feature is its central location, which is convenient for those who plan to eat, shop and party in the Old Market area, but could be a hassle to those who don't want to deal with the noise and aggressive solicitations of this area.

Best place in Siem Reap - 27th November, 2006
Unfortunately we didn't stay at Shadow of Angkor but wished we did. We spent a lot of time in the cafe -- breakfasts, drinks, etc. Staff were so friendly, service was great, location fabulous, prices good and generally the most relaxing place to be.

Great guesthouse - 6th June, 2006
I had a great time here. It's a great location, around the corner from the central market and "pub street", across from the river so you can enjoy sitting on the veranda. The people are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and comfortable. There's a great atmosphere here too because lots of people come here to stay. Good food in the restaurant.

Good Location, Nice People - 25th November, 2005
Nice place, cold air-con, cable TV, hot water, refrigerator. Good restaurant too. Central location, across the street from the market and a block from the bar/restaurant district. Door to our room would not lock and staff could not assist with this, so a pretty major inconvenience. Also, some weird bird stuck in our ceiling kept us up most of the night ... Would recommend however, very happy overall. US$15 for two beds.

Really a nice terrace - and nice people! - 3rd September, 2004
We stayed at Shadow of Angkor for five nights and it was a really good experience. Friendly people, clean rooms for reasonable prices and a really great breakfast!
