Description
The Dead Fish Tower has an eclectic mix of rooms, including some with crocodiles, varying quite a bit in size (the rooms, not the crocodiles), some of which are very cramped. Affiliated with the same-named restaurant up the road, Dead Fish's rooms are clean and pretty well kitted out considering the cost, though it's a steep narrow staircase that leads to the cheapest offerings -- best not combined with over-indulging on Bar Street. Their larger rooms vary a lot, so if you're in the $20+ market, be sure to see as many rooms as possible -- don't settle for the first they show you. Overall this is a good budget option, but flashpackers will get better elsewhere.

Unique but a tad Rundown - ![]()

Stayed 3 nights in a small windowless double with AC.
AC worked great - room was somewhat musty and smelled ''off'' - perhaps the cleaner they used or air freshener.
Many (all) rooms seem to have a leak from the bathroom into the main hall area that left a puddle after you showered (in the hall not the room) which were quickly cleaned up by the staff but best to watch your step to avoid a slip.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant is hard to describe I read it described as Mad Max meets the Swiss Family Robinson - multi layered eating areas some reclining some with seats some reached only by climbing ladders - well worth a trip to eat dinner there. It is quite popular and there was always a crowd in the evenings with a line waiting to get in the three nights we were there- they serve good food. Breakfast (only $3 if staying in the hotel) was adequate not spectacular.
Expensive, but pleasant - ![]()

First things first, Dead Fish is not great value for your money. However, if you have no problem paying 20$ a night, you will get a nice, exquisitely decorated twin room with AC and TV. We had no problems with any noise. The restaurant downstairs is rather over-priced (7$ for set breakfast!), and while the architecture and general feeling of the place is really fascinating, I don't recommend eating there. The staff are helpful, but really not too competent.
Cool scene but a little pricey - ![]()

Funky guesthouse on the main strip near 'New market'. Well appointed rooms with brightly painted walls. Rates include free head massage, shave and 15 minutes of internet. Unfortunately the amount of street traffic and noise from the restaurant make it difficult to get a decent night's sleep. If you are a white male, be prepared to be solicited by pimps at some point during your stay.
