Description
While their PR boasts 4 star accommodation at 2 star prices it's more a case of 2-star accommodation at 2-star prices at Golden Temple. A very popular backpacker and flashpacker spot, this is very good value for Siem Reap, boasting very clean and comfortable rooms. However, we've received a number of complaints regarding reservations being lost or not honoured -- if you're planning on staying here, reconfirm, reconfirm and reconfirm again. The rooms are brightly painted and come with clean, well maintained bathrooms, and, as there are plenty of rooms here, this is a good option to try in high season when places are filling up. The staff here can be pretty lacklustre -- perhaps wearied by a never-ending stream of demanding guests, but overall it remains a good value spot.

Pretty good for the money -
By jlovejoy ( total comments: 2  More information please ) Stayed here 12/2007
I stayed here for three nights and didn't encounter any of the problems listed by other users. My airport pickup was fine, the tuk-tuk driver (Mr. Chet) was nice, the staff was quite friendly, the Internet worked and there were no extra charges. The restaurant is quite good but it is kind of annoying that you can't bill charges to your room (you also have to pay for the entire stay up front, which I wasn't thrilled about). The room is adequate but nothing special-- decorated cute, but the housekeeping was lackluster and the shower was basically a hose coming out of the wall. I don't think my bedlinens were changed once during my stay.
Overall, I wasn't unhappy with my stay here but it did make me realize that I prefer my accomodations a bit more upscale. I would recommend this place to backpackers (the location is great, quiet and convenient) but not to those who like a little more luxury or anyone hoping for a midrange accomodation at a budget price.

relaxed and clean -

If you want somewhere clean to stay with friendly staff this is it. The price they quote can usually be negotiated down a couple of dollars, so smile and ask nicely!

Nice Hotel -

This was a very nice hotel, with good clean rooms and helpful staff. However beware of their pricing regime. We were quoted a price, then after our transport had left, the price went up by one dollar a night!. We paid the price up front and then were told it was an extra three dollars to unlock the fridge in our room !. All that aside though it was a very relaxing place to stay, with unlimited free bananas, great if your a monkey

Seriously BAD -

Rip off merchants. Constantly scamming. No bottled water available. No laundry available. Free pickup didn't turn up. Rooms were very good but the hotel staff were constantly scamming and using scare tactics. Restaurant staff and food were good. DON'T GO THERE UNLESS THERE IS NOWHERE ELSE TO GO

Our favorite Cambodian guesthouse -

My fiance and I stayed here for about 5 nights. We had a GREAT time...we were picked up at the bus station (for free), taken back, where reception was so lovely and kind. The free internet is great, as well as the free coffee and tea and bananas whenever you want. They cleaned the room everyday and left clean towels. The food at their little restaurant is EXCELLENT. The pizzas are remarkable, the Khmer specialties (set meals) are outstanding, breakfast and baguettes are good...we really enjoyed the food there. Best guest-house food in all our travels. Really close to the old market, so walking out for shopping was easy. Felt really safe, although there are several red-lighted 'massage' places. hehe...as well as several laundry places. hmmm...interesting combo. We had a tuk-tuk guy for the whole time we were there. Sweet kid, rather new, with minimal English. But he took us all over, and there was absolutely no scamming. We didn't want to leave...they really are so nice there. Friendliest staff of all the places we'd stayed a, best food, and such a nice little garden-esque location. Highly recommend it to couples/people seeking a little less 'backpackery' scene.
All in all, excellent choice.

I usually don't do this but... -

If we had to do it over again, we would have stayed elsewhere. While the rooms were ok and the majority of the staff were pleasant, we had problems with our reservation (made online) when they gave our room away because of what they said was a miscommunication about our arrival location and time. They did put us up in another guesthouse but it was still inconvient. And the tuk-tuk driver we hired at the guesthouse tried many times to scam us. Overall, it was not a very pleasant experience.

A very good time -

My friend and I enjoyed our stay at Golden Temple Villa very much. Our room was spacious with nice sunlight and we liked the interior design pretty much. The toilet was a bit of a disappointment though, as the heater was occasionally not working well. We had good chats and nice laughs with the receptionists and the people working there were really nice to us. The free tea we had, and internet service was a good throw in to what we paid for our fan room, $9 - $10. :) And we liked the beds too, it was a bit bigger than we expected! From the tuk2 driver that picked us up till the end of the stay, Golden Temple Villa treated us really well. Keep up the good work and hope to see you all the next time we visit again.

Excellent! -

We stayed here for two nights and had to change to a recommended hotel in the same street. Even when we had a problem with the tuktuk-driver they DID business with they were friendly and gave us $7 back of the $46 we paid the tuktuk. We can say the boss is really professional and the staff is helpfull. Clean room $9,- free internet, bananas and coffee. quiet place in a busy town.

Mediocre -

I stayed at Golden Temple Villa last month and wasn't too impressed. One of the male receptionist at this place was boderline rude. He is one of those people who you doubt, right off the bat, how genuine they are. At first, he was really friendly but after recieving payment, he started to get rude. Things that I disliked about this place: - the fact that they demand the key when you leave to go anywhere. I don't mind leaving my key but when I others start accusing me of being paranoid that's when the problems come in. Another thing that I didn't care for too much is the bathroom. I don't know if we were unlucky but we got a room with a extremely dirty bathroom. I'm of average height and the shower head came up to my chest area so when I took a shower, I would constantly have to crouch over in order to fit. The drain in the tub is super slow... which is just nasty and the bathroom floor is also pretty filthy.

Not recommended at all -

We made an online booking through travelfish. First, nobody picked us up in the airport, although numerous emails have been exchanged prior to the trip, followed by a phone call. The booking fee charged by this website was ignored and they still demanded we pay a full amount of $18 per room/night with aircon. I lost my booking fee. They ignored the printed booking confirmation, not friendly and helpful at all. The receptionists have intimidated looks. Bathroom was dirty, smelly and the water was stuck in the bathtub *yikes* The lovely trip would be perfect if not because of the experience w/ this hotel. Everything else was fabulous.

Decent Compared to the Rest -
By mollyandjason ( total comments: 14  More information please ) Stayed here 2/2006
This place is down a side street and is very quiet, which is definitely a bonus in this loud place. The room was okay and was comparable to many rooms we stayed at in Cambodia. It would be overpriced anywhere else. The service was okay but the owner is a bit stand-offish when it counts. It's a decent place to stage out of in order to see the temples.

Good room, shame about the service -
By LionelHutz ( total comments: 9  More information please ) Stayed here 1/2006
No complaints about the rooms, which are quite new and modern with proper cable TV. Also the price was reasonable. But the service was awful - the free pick up service was nowhere to be seen, laundry service took 48 hours (after a promise of 24 hours), our room was not properly cleaned and the internet wasn't working the entire time we were there. Also, they had a strange insistence on being paid immediately for extras like laundry and bottled water - no ''put it on my room'' here.

Excellent! -

Extremely clean and cheap. Paid $7/night for double room with fan and hot water. Nicely furnished room with new linens and television. 15 minutes of free internet access each day. Decent cafe and friendly staff.

Looks like a great place to stay! -

This was my 2nd choice mainly due to the fact I really wanted a pool as we were there in the hot season and it was hot! But we still popped in to check out what we were missing - we were inpressed, spotless & really well set for travellers. First choice if there is a next time.

Shadow of Angkor (previously known as Rasmei Angkor) is one of the few budget places overlooking the Siem Reap river in Siem Reap's old market area. The Red Piano
50m Northwest of old market, Siem Reap
Particularly obliging staff were on duty at Red Piano when we called in. Rooms are spotless and quite well-sized affairs -- brightly painted (as is the hotel's exterior, though it's more purple than red nowadays). The Red Piano is a really good deal for small groups as the rooms price jumps by just... more

Eight Rooms
Near Artisans d'Angkor, Siem Reap
You'd never guess it, but Eight Rooms has eight rooms -- all in a Khmer-style shopfront on the road by Artisans d'Angkor.
