The Victoria Angkor remains one of the most impressive large properties in Siem Reap. Despite its gorgeous layout and opulent decor, it's priced the same as hotels a star or two lower, and have even gone down recently. Nothing is overlooked. The colonial-style lobby has patterned-tile walkways surrounding trinkling pools with floating lotus blossoms. There's an ornate gift shop, and when we visited, a Khmer woman was weaving traditional fabrics on a large loom. Rooms are very generously sized and tastefully decorated, although the leopard print couch in one suite we saw may be overdoing it a little. Staff are excellent -- friendly, courteous and eager to please. The salt-water pool is ostentatious, but it's huge and undeniably fun to swim in. The restaurant surrounding it is lovely as well. A good deal more affordable than Raffles across the square, if you're looking for a luxury plunge without spending top dollar, you could do far worse. Be sure to check internet rates. Recommended.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. For mid-range hotels and up, always shop around online for a competitive rate. Click here to find out more about what makes Travelfish different with regards our accommodation reviews.
