The Sydney Angkor Hotel is on the east side of Siem Reap and represents good value if you want to stay in a hotel rather than a guesthouse. The rooms are clean, well sized and come with a full complement of facilities. The staff speak good English and are quite helpful. While the hotel isn't overflowing with character, appearing like a typical, tiled modern Khmer building, if you're after a comfortable cheap hotel within easy walking distance of the Old Market area, then this is great value. There's a small outdoor restaurant with a thatched roof outside that is more charming than the hotel itself, and when we visited in 2009, they were building a pond outside that should improve the atmosphere a bit. Free pick-up if you book in advance. Internet and breakfast are included.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. Bargain - 2nd January, 2006
I stayed here for one day with a fellow backpacker. She was charged US$12 for the room as she didn't do her research. Pretty inconvenient location I would say, right in the middle of the street but it more than makes up for it with the army of trishaw drivers out there. Nice cafe with moderately priced food.
