Big Lyna Villa

Homey feel

What we say: 3 stars

You'll get a big warm welcome from Dalin, the owner of this homely place in a traditional Khmer villa. With just 10 rooms, the oddly named Big Lyna Villa is a good intermediate between backpacker and flashpacker. The second-floor rooms are preferable because the floors and walls are made entirely of dark, wide teak planks and rattan floor mats, giving a pleasing authentic feel. Bottom floor rooms have less appealing cement floors, though will be cooler if you're not a fan of air-con. All the rooms have bamboo and wicker furniture, and are well sized and cleaned to a polish, with TVs and fridges. Bathrooms are large, with brick walls, and the front room upstairs has a bath. The only low quality fixtures are the flimsy plastic bathroom doors. The wooden shutters covering the windows can be difficult to open. The rooms share a well-shaded terrace veranda, which is a nice place to relax during the midday heat. For the authentic feel and its close proximity to the river and Old Market, we'd choose this place over the more austere options (like Golden Orange) in this price range in the area. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Breakfast not included. Bicycles are available for hire at a slightly higher price of $3, but have gears and look in much better condition than other places. Dalin offers a reduced rate for NGO workers in Cambodia and volunteers in Siem Reap.
