You'd never guess it, but Eight Rooms has eight rooms -- all in a Khmer-style shopfront on the road by Artisans d'Angkor. The staff member who showed us around was very helpful and, as they say on their slick website, seemed more than happy to share their guesthouse with everyone. The foyer, behind a plant-filled patio, is an open-plan affair and has been well swished through with the style brush, including burgundy silk curtains, paper lanterns, and modern furniture. The rooms are also a big step above the typical Khmer shop house fare. They're a good size, with real mattresses, a sharp paintjob and even a flash of decor. All are air-con, kitted out with DVD, cable TV and minibar. Complimentary internet is available on the ground floor. The rooftop terrace has a bunch of large potted plants and tables shaded by individual thatch-roof huts. There's no food or drink served up there, though, which makes it a place only for lounging. All up, for the money, this is a good find -- made even better by free airport and bus-station pick-up. There's no official low-season rate, but the manager said you can negotiate one then depending on occupancy. The Singaporean owner, who also runs Ei8ht Inn down the street, is friendly and helpful. Both hotels are gay friendly.

Eight Rooms reviews

Nice but a bit pricey - 22nd April, 2009
We stayed at EightRooms for three nights while in Siem Reap and enjoyed the facilities but ended up leaving because we learned that other local guesthouses were offering comparable accommodation for less. We did enjoy the wi-fi and also the found the rooftop terrace and lobby to be comfortable places to hang out although completely empty of other guests (which added to the mystery of why the hotel was so expensive). On the upside, they did offer free pick-up from the bus station which was a nice touch. The decor is lovely but be aware that if you ask for a triple, you will end up with a flimsy foldaway bed.

Friendly & good location - 10th March, 2008
We stayed for 3 nights in Feb 08 and found the staff friendly and helpful. We had an initial missunderstanding not being collect from the bus. So we got our own tuk tuk and were compensated without having to ask! They've got more than 8 rooms now and we stayed across the road in the new block which was clean, $2 less, but not as charming as the main building. However very convient location (only a few mintues walk from the ''alley'' a great little pedestrian street with good restaraunts and boutiques)and we organised tours of Angkor on a tuk tuk from the hotel which proved reasonible.
