Description
This deep purple, Australian-run flashpacker haven is more than just a place to stay, if you take advantage of their many services, it can be a way to really experience much of what Siem Reap has to offer. The lodgings are mostly set in a multistorey Khmer-style house and are of a good size and comfort level. All are fitted out with air-con, minibar and hot water bathrooms, but for a TV you'll need to upgrade to at least a superior room. When just the rooms are considered, the prices are a bit inflated (especially the standard rooms), but once the pleasant garden area and range of extra services comes to mind, it's not such a bad deal -- they're obviously doing something right as it took us three days of trying before we were able to get a room! The Villa also has a couple of bungalows (really chalets) around the side of the main building and a treehouse (on the outskirts of Siem Reap) to choose from. A range of reasonably priced tours are on offer -- some struck us as a little superfluous -- but others are quite a good deal. The guesthouse also has a large, congenial garden area, well staffed with cheery, chatty staff. A couple of minor gripes were that we found the WiFi to be very patchy and their taxi rates are inflated -- they quoted us $45 for a taxi to Battambang and said it would cost us even more to get it independently. In fact we paid $30 at the share-taxi station.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Very helpfull staff, nice rooms. They even arrange tuktuks to take you around Ankor for a very reasonable price and airport pickup, with free drink in the tuktuk, was also free. Highly recommended

Golden Temple Villa
Off Sivatha Rd, Siem Reap
While their PR boasts 4 star accommodation at 2 star prices it's more a case of 2-star accommodation at 2-star prices at Golden Temple. A very popular backpacker and flashpacker spot, this is very good value for Siem Reap, boasting very clean and comfortable rooms. However, we've received a number... more
Shadow of Angkor
353 Group 10, Old Market area, Siem Reap
Shadow of Angkor (previously known as Rasmei Angkor) is one of the few budget places overlooking the Siem Reap river in Siem Reap's old market area. A family-run affair, their rooms are good and well looked after, but what really makes this place is the long terraced veranda where you can spend the... more
The Red Piano
50m Northwest of old market, Siem Reap
Particularly obliging staff were on duty at Red Piano when we called in. Rooms are spotless and quite well-sized affairs -- brightly painted (as is the hotel's exterior, though it's more purple than red nowadays). The Red Piano is a really good deal for small groups as the rooms price jumps by just... more
Ivy Guesthouse
Old market area, Siem Reap
One of the most centrally located spots in Siem Reap, Ivy Guesthouse is a comfortable place to spend time, both day and night. It's six rooms have a rare historical authenticity in a boom town where few buildings are more than five years old. Each room has floor-to-ceiling doors (painted ivy green,... more
Eight Rooms
Near Artisans d'Angkor, Siem Reap
You'd never guess it, but Eight Rooms has eight rooms -- all in a Khmer-style shopfront on the road by Artisans d'Angkor. The staff member who showed us around was very helpful and, as they say on their slick website seemed more than happy to share our guesthouse with everyone. Keeping that... more
Angkor Voyage Villa
House 161, Group 4, Sivatha Rd, Siem Reap
Angkor Voyage Villa came highly recommended by a Travelfish regular and when we wandered through we found the rooms to be quite a good deal with comfortable furnishings and a spacious layout. All came fitted out with hot water bathrooms (with tub), cable TV and minibars and there's also a ground... more
