If you're looking for something a little bit different, or feel that you need some artistic stimulation, then this place needs you. 1961 started out life as an art gallery, with a couple of artists in residence, but when they left owner Loven Ramos asked them to jazz up their rooms with 1960s themes, and so they did. There are now eight rooms, and each one is completely unique having been remodelled by a different artist. Ramos hasn't been idle himself and the whole place is a testament to his unrelenting creativity. Think kitsch, avant-garde, funky and playful - it's fascinating. There are two open-fronted galleries with rotating exhibitions, and there are also a couple of stalls selling jewellery, vintage clothing, books and random knick-knacks that Ramos seems to have picked up along the way. The rooms are not luxurious, but they have everything you need and are comfortable. The food is highly rated, and the breakfasts delicious. The cocktails are only $3, and are all appropriately themed, for example the Cuban Missile Crisis: Russian Vodka, American whisky mixed with pomegranate.
