What we say:

At the southeastern end of Balangan Beach is a cluster of beach shacks serving warung-style food, but also home to an abundance of very basic surfer accommodation. Most of the rooms are very small, containing only a bed with mosquito net and bathroom facilities shared between guests (and sometimes the family) at the back of the building. Some of these communal facilities are Western style, but many have a squat toilet and Indonesian-style cold-water mandi. There is no fixed price on these rooms and negotiation will largely be dependent on occupancy rates. Expect to pay 75,000 rupiah for the most basic rooms and up to 250,000 rupiah for something with a view and walls not made out of paper-thin bamboo. It doesn't get much more basic than this.
