Comfortable mainstream resort
Puri Bagus has a great location at the end of a quiet beach, accessed from a lane at the far end of Jalan Pantai Indah.
It’s a surprise when you enter the reception of this well maintained, but rather mainstream resort almost in the middle of nowhere — it’s more on par with what you would expect in the grander resorts in Southern Bali. Expect huge flower arrangements, wafting incense and chandeliers.
Welcoming and professional staff will escort you through to the sprawling grounds. A small village of well-space and good-sized Balinese-style bungalows dot the neat paths and gardens. The air-con bungalows feel luxurious and comfortable, but are a tad bland. Pale-coloured walls and floor tiles, high ceilings and large picture windows give a sense of space in the bright and airy rooms. They are spotlessly maintained and well appointed with modern-style quality dark wooden furniture, comfortable beds and all mod-cons. Semi-outdoor hot-water bathrooms are roomy, with bath tubs and separate showers. Furnished verandas have sea or garden views, but are not especially private. Some of the “sea-view” bungalows have views from the windows, but verandas are not ocean facing.
Puri Bagus’ large and deep oceanfront swimming pool provides plenty of lounging and sun-worshiping opportunities. An adjoining shallower pool is great for the kids. A spa for pampering, a bar for cocktail sipping, and an open-air restaurant for sampling Balinese cuisine (or sticking with tried-and-true Western favourites), are all part of the facilities. Free WiFi and breakfast are included. An on-site dive centre offers special packages for divers.
Published rates are far above quotes for walk-ins or what’s is available online, so look for deals first. Puri Bagus is ideal for a traditional resort holiday. It ticks all the boxes for comfort and amenities — you won’t be disappointed, but it's nothing out of the ordinary.
