Pondok Wisata Meme Surung
Colonial charm on a budget

What we say:
The main draw here are the original Dutch colonial houses that were built prior to when the old man who lives here was born in 1930. It's possible to stay in three of these houses, with two of them having a single room and the other having two rooms and two bathrooms suitable for a family or two couples. Internally, the rooms are charming and different to almost anything else in Bali, with many of their old fixtures still in place — it's in more of an original condition than Guru Ratna next door. Externally, the buildings have shuttered windows, ornate styling and grand verandahs. Rooms have hot water bathrooms and a good level of cleanliness. Aside from the five colonial houses, other old rooms (which actually have far better, albeit tree-shrouded views) are available with some charm but rates vary considerably — check their website for all the permutations and in low season, bargaining will pay big dividends here. The great colonial style of the oldest buildings combined with the family compound vibe (including chickens) make this place a winner. No WIFi. Owned by the same people who own Puri Lumbung.
