Pondok Baruna
Good midrange offbeach option

What we say:
Pondok Baruna has three separate properties: a beachside location, one mid-way between the beach and the road, and a roadside restaurant. The section between the road and the beach is the most noteworthy with clean good-quality and sized rooms in a garden compound and with a well-shaded, multi-depth swimming pool (often used by dive students, for whom guests are asked to give priority to) with plenty of deckchairs. The air-con rooms have beds that are a bit too soft for our taste, but they're otherwise fine with bedside lighting and clean bathrooms. We liked the cushion-seating on the separate individual verandas. Bathrooms are fine though we needed assistance to figure out how to get the shower to pump out anything other than scalding hot water. Friendly staff and the on-site restaurant churns out good meals. Try to wangle a small discount off their rates if you can.
