Family run homestay with views
Jalan Silayukti, Gang Segara, Padang Bai T: (0363) 41425
Rooms at family-run Pondok Wisata Serangan 1 open onto a spacious outdoor terrace with beach views beyond the trees and rooftops.
This small and friendly homestay is very much old-school Bali, with basic but clean and simple rooms upstairs above the family’s shop.
Rooms have ceiling fans, and are light and airy, with plenty of windows — some glassless with wooden shutters, which may cut light and noise at night. A soft bed with clean linen and a dresser with a mirror are the spartan furnishings in the tiled room. The ensuite cold-water bathroom is old and stained, but clean. What moves this simple place up a notch from other similar basic offerings is its wide terrace. It has plenty of seating, a small bale in one corner, and a jungle of lush pot plants. It's a pleasant spot to unwind after a hard day at the beach, eat the included breakfast, use the free WiFi or chat to other travellers. The family is very friendly and can help with local travel information and tours.
If Pondok Wisata Serangan 1 is full, Made Homestay on Jalan Silayukti is another older-style family-run place with rooms for the same price, but without a view. Around the corner in Gang Tongkol, Dharma Homestay offers air-con and hot-water rooms.
