What we say: 
Bali can be a tremendously beautiful place, but nowhere on the island quite takes the breath away like the views from the Sayan ridge. This is, quite simple, one of the most stunning areas in all of Bali. Now this beauty has attracted some fabulously expensive resorts, but we opted for Sayan Terrace for a few simple reasons. It's not ridiculously expensive. It has just a handful of rooms. The staff are some of the most accommodating we've met. The views. Rooms are fine, if a bit dated — they're spacious and well appointed and the pool makes great use of the tremendous views. The foundations of Colin McPhee's house (author of Bali classic A House in Bali — yes, pack that too) are right next door and the staff will happily show you around. It's a fabulously homely, Balinese-style resort without the glitz of the gaudy neighbours. Recommended. Reservations close to essential.
